On this week's episode of THE SCRIPT, presented by Dr Pepper, Cardale Jones and Dave Holmes dive into the biggest Ohio State football headlines of the week. At Big Ten media day, UM head coach KyleâŚ
Let's start with some of the fallout from Big Ten media days, which was last week in Chicago.
To me, if there was one coach soundbite that stood out the most to me, it was Michigan's new head coach, Kyle Whittingham.
here's the thing when you're talking about the Ohio State and the team of North rivalry, it dates back to so much hatred in the way the rivalry was created by having usually typically coaches from both sides of the universities having major ties, not just with the universities, but with the cities and the state as well.
So some of those things, Irving Myers has said all the time, and I mentioned this multiple times on this show, he will recruit a few guys a year just to help them win that game because they know what the hatred is like for that team of North.
And I think with Kyle Winningham coming from such a different environment, he doesn't feel that yet.
It's been many coaches on both sides fired because of lack of success in that game.
outside of the unbelievable records in bowl games and unbelievable records throughout the regular season and the grading and recruiting histories.
And getting back to the, you know, when we fought over the city of Toledo, and that's why you look at Toledo, you have so many Team Up North fans still in that area because way, way, way back when, before anyone else was around.
So I think hatred is the right word that is continuing to be thrown around in that rivalry.
But I am also shocked to see that Kyle Whittingham kind of, I wouldn't say downplayed it, but not understanding the magnitude of it yet coming from, you know, I mean, BYU and Utah.
and how critical that game is in state rivalry and one of the greatest rivalries of all college football as well.
It's quite not up there with Ohio State and Michigan, but when you talk about top rivals in college football, that game comes up a lot.
So a little shocking, and I think Buckeye fans are eating it up because it's just like what Bryce Underwood said when he talked about his goals for this season.
