Let's hear from Ryan Day as he's thinking back on the end of the Texas game and whether or not he should have allowed Texas to score.

Well, i- it didn't work, so the answer is yes.

We spoke with Ryan Day for about half an hour on Tuesday afternoon about Ohio State's 24-23 loss to Texas.

I think people are interested in it, Dylan, right? There's enough people who watch the news conferences live or, you know, there's a lot of sites that show it.

People are curious of sort of like the vibes in the room.

So we want to get into the football, but just, Dylan, like, Question number one is like, what do you think of how Tuesday went with the Ohio State beat trying to ask Ryan Day about what went wrong in Austin?

I was sitting in the Austin airport on Sunday evening or Sunday afternoon waiting to fly back to Columbus, and I put up a thing on Twitter just saying how excited I was looking forward to or how much I was looking forward to this press conference, maybe more so than any other press conference in my time on the beats.

And I asked Twitter, I dared ask Twitter what they thought they'd want to see or what they'd want to hear from the press conference, and boy, did that generate some responses.

The question that I have and that we're going to discuss here is in terms of the Ohio State personnel.

And Ryan Day said on Tuesday they got to make sure the right personnel is out there.

And I know a lot of people wanted to see more Legend Bay.

You want to see some of the younger guys.

And to say that he's not trusted, clearly he didn't play, so he's not trusted, right? Except they had a play designed for him in this game.

Now, was that the only thing that, like, you do this one specific play, we're not going to do anything else with you? This seems very super specialized for somebody as dynamic as Legend Bay, but also maybe they felt like, well, the offense is going well enough, and then you can't put this freshman into a tough situation in the fourth quarter because that's when you lean on your leaders.

As Ryan Day said, that's when your captains and your leaders have to make a play.

not your true freshman running back who is still learning the position, but maybe if he had played some earlier.

Notre Dame was winning without Marcus Freeman.

Ohio State was winning before Ryan Day got there.

We'll see about Ole Miss if they can say a float without Lane.

But they are

But in the big picture, I say excellent.

To John's point, I just think, you know, It's one thing to take over a program that you've been in for a while, like Ryan at Ohio State or Marcus Freeman at Notre Dame and become a first time head coach that way when you already know the lay of the land.

You go from Georgia defense coordinator to the Pacific Northwest to be a head coach, 36 or whatever he was when he got that job, and to pretty much dominate, it's really, really impressive, really, really hard to do.

And I know in some ways you could say Oregon's the best job in the country, right, because you've got more money and toys than God, and you probably don't have the pressure that you do at Ohio State or Michigan or Notre Dame.

I think their coaching is good.

I think Matt Patricia needs to show a little something with getting a little more creative when they play big games defensively coming up.

Ryan Day sort of even indicated that on Tuesday they need to be more aggressive on defense.

But I'm a little bit – I thought it coming into the year – I'm just curious about it.

You know what I'm saying? I've always found that to be a little bit, you know, lack thereof.

It did come off a little like didn't do yourself PR favors there.

But I get it.

Going back to the Ryan Day thing, though.

Now, the clip that has been put out is the one where he answers a question, walks off the stage after being asked, do you have faith in your special teams? and the SID then hits the rim with, like, come on, guys.

That's my belief.

I believe he was ticked because they were losing at halftime and he didn't want to stand there and wait while they talked to Ryan Day first.

And he got mad and he left while they made him wait and they kind of covered it.

Now...

Instant adult, but also very willing to blow a game.

Yeah, Ryan Day is kind of the John Harbaugh of college.

I can't believe they lost that game.

Like, I really can't.

What he wants to be, Lane's a pretty darn good recruiter.
