The New iPad mini0:59 – 6:08

I honestly didn't expect much of anything from Apple this week until Wednesday.

1:04

That's when Apple's inviting a select few to a Pro & Tell product event in Los Angeles, where they're expected to show off and talk about new MacBooks, new iMacs, and a new iPad mini.

1:18

Or they could just roll it all out heading into the Pro Intel event.

1:22

9to5Mac had Apple SVP of Worldwide Marketing Greg Josweg hitting the socials on Monday, saying it's going to be an exciting week and it starts with our all-new iPad Mini.

1:35

So I guess we're going to go ahead and start then.

1:37

Describing the device, Joss Wick's post continued, thinner and lighter than ever, with an OLED display, water and dust resistant, better audio, powered by A20 Pro.

1:48

It is the biggest update ever to iPad Mini, and priced like it.

1:56

That last part's me, not him.

1:57

I know, I know.

1:58

But still...

2:02

At the start of June, an iPad Mini started at $499.

2:07

Summers saw price increases for almost every bit of Apple hardware, iPhone being a notable exception.

2:15

By the end of June, iPad Mini's starting price was $599.

2:18

Now a piece from MacRumors has Apple's diminutive fondle slab, starting at $699.

2:27

But I've kind of jumped ahead.

2:30

According to Apple's press release, the new iPad mini is thinner and lighter, despite its larger OLED display.

2:38

Two colors from which to choose, midnight and starlight.

2:42

I'm sorry, did I say colors? I meant shades.

2:46

I guess the color is saved for the screen.

2:48

Apple says the Super Retina XDR display features OLED technology to deliver pixel-level lighting control for much deeper blacks and support for the P3 wide color gamut for more vivid and accurate imagery.

3:03

Apple's moved the FaceTime camera to the long edge.

3:06

A piece from MacRumors points out that that means all current iPads now feature a landscape front camera.

3:14

Apple touts a giant leap in performance for iPad Mini thanks to its A20 Pro processor, though even on that, 699 only gets you through the door.

3:25

A piece from Six Colors refers to the entry device as a binned Wi-Fi-only version.

3:32

I assume they meant bin because it's only Wi-Fi, though.
