So I have been on the fence.

Now that Apple has actually put forth some effort into properly supporting an iOS device of a similarly sized display with the iPhone Duo, Do you think there's any chance we could see a future version of the iPad Mini running the version of iOS that we see on the inner displays of the iPhone Duo? I could see arguments for or against, but I'm curious what you think of this idea.

uh sorry no i don't disagree with you because also you can kind of run an ipad in a dumb mode right like just single app or split view and they've kind of made that a little bit better like you're not going to use stage manager or fully resizing windows very often on an ipad mini because it's just not the display for that so just don't do it right like like just use it in like side by side split view and you'll be fine I see the point that Patrick is making, but it just doesn't make any sense to take an iPad and not have it run iPadOS.

I agree.

In the same way that the iPhone Duo doesn't run iPadOS either.

They just changed iOS to support this style of interaction.

But even you've said that you've enjoyed using the Fold 8, which again has a crease.

What I will say about the iPhone Duo is, is that it's the least creased display and the reason for that is that that inspired choice of uh nano texture which is like a kind of matte finish on the on the internal display the external display isn't that it's a regular um you know glossy display but yeah the internal one has this kind of matte finish which you know flattens it and makes the crease very very hard to pick out but also gives it just a very sort of premium look and feel when you open that screen and also makes it feel unlike any other Apple device, which I think is very important because the one Apple device that could fall victim to this is the iPad mini.

I've had a lot of questions from people saying, if I've got an iPhone 15 and an iPad mini, I use both of them all the time.

Should I just get rid of both of those things and get the iPhone duo? And it's incredibly hard to say whether No, because on paper, it makes a lot of sense to go down to one device.

The only thing to bear in mind with it is that you'd lose iPadOS.

The iPhone Duo isn't running iPadOS.

It's running a very customized version of iOS, which is very interesting what they've done in terms of moving some of the things around.

The dock is on the right-hand side, and they've moved some of the controls to better fit those two displays.
