Lynnell Willingham reacts to all of the craziest NFL action from Week 4. Lynnell is stunned with how consistently bad the Lions defense performs. Lynnell questions if the Ravens can handle Lamar…
Lynnell WillinghamHostDenton DayPanelistWe will, uh, keep you up to speed with the final nine minutes of regulation on Sunday Night Football.
The Carolina Panthers, on Sunday night for the first time in over a decade, uh, they are up 32-19 with 8:59 left to go in regulation.
The story of this game to this point, and we'll see in this final nine minutes or so, whether or not Detroit is able to make some hay.
But the story of this game tonight is once again been the defense of the Detroit Lions showing that they are quite literally one of the worst units in all the National Football League.
It's been every week this year, uh, the Detroit Lions defense really feeling like they're the catalyst for why this team, uh, hasn't gotten things done.
And, and people will say, "What do you mean hadn't gotten things done, Lenell? They're 2-1." 2-1, but haven't really played anyone to this point.
I would say this matchup tonight, uh, here against the Carolina Panthers, probably their most formidable opponent.
We'll talk about the Bills and how I'm feeling about them coming out of week number four a, a little bit later.
But I, I think the frustrating part for me when it comes to the Detroit Lions is it's the same mistakes happening over and over and over again.
As far as I'm concerned, based on the numbers that we have seen here tonight, based on the game footage we've seen here tonight, Lions defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard should've been fired at halftime as they continue to be the worst pass defense in all of football.
Think about who is not in the lineup tonight for the Carolina Panthers on offense.
No Jalen Coker, no Xavier Legette, who's now on injured reserve, yet Tetairoa McMillan still is running Kanye crazy.
When you are a defensive coordinator and you're going against a receiving corps that has its star, right, but is missing its complementary pieces, you would think that you would pay extra close attention to Tetairoa McMillan.
That has not been the case tonight when it comes to Kelvin Sheppard and this Detroit Lions defense.
He has had, I mean, a hell of a performance here, and it started in the first half where he went for over 100.
They haven't really had answers for him here tonight, and if the Detroit Lions do not get things figured out on the defensive side of the football, they're not going to reach expectations.
And I told you all, all offseason, anybody who would listen, I was ready to write off the Detroit Lions.
This group, to me, has not been the same since they lost both of their coordinators.
Talking about Ben Johnson, their former offensive coordinator, now head coach of the Chicago Bears, and then Aaron Glenn, their former defensive coordinator, now head coach, uh, of the New York Jets.
