A Thursday morning edition of the Husker247 Podcast breaks down the opening injury report for Nebraska and Oregon. How will each team move forward without key players? Michael Bruntz and Brian…
Michael BruntzHostThe notable ones for the Huskers first, uh, I wouldn't say it's a surprise, but it's still big.
And, uh, Riley Van Poppel, who did not play last week or suit up, is doubtful.
On the Oregon side, uh, not a surprise, I would say, either, sort of if you're reading the tea leaves, but confirmation, quarterback Dante Moore is out this week as he continues to recover from that concussion, which was suffered a few weeks back when they played USC.
So, um, probably some of what we expected, Brunz, but still significant stuff on both sides that sort of advances, uh, some of the stuff we've been talking about already earlier this week even.

Yeah, I, I, you know, Jahmyr Khan doesn't-- We'll start with the Nebraska side-

... 'cause I think that's probably a sneaky important one, maybe not even that sneaky, but Jahmyr Khan out.

Um, what does Nebraska do, I guess, to make up for that absence? Do they just slot Caleb Benning in? Uh, Rob Orich at least introduced the idea that Nebraska would consider moving some things around in the secondary to get their 11 on the field, whatever that looks like.

Um, you know, I think kind of reading between the lines and based on what Nebraska's said throughout the season, that would probably be some kind of change for Donovan Jones, um, to, to keep him on the field in some form or fashion.

So, um, I mean, what do you make of that as just, like, a, a loss? I mean, I, I think you saw, you've seen at times this year that he's been really good in run support.

I think you've also seen just from a leadership, getting guys in position type thing, he's been almost as important as Dwayne McDougle's been, um, you know, to the operation back there in Nebraska's secondary.
I think you're talking about with Jahmyr Khan somebody who you can go back to December when he was just Rob Orich's kind of guy, like, as a player, right? Like, I mean, even in the bowl practices, he identified him as, like, "He's gonna be central to sort of what we do." And even in the spring his, his position wasn't exactly settled at that point, 'cause they kind of moved him around the first, like, five practices or so.
But the point was, they were gonna find a way to play Khan, and so he's, he's been probably one of the...
If you're making a list of, like, most valuable top 10 guys, he's been on that list, I think, with this coaching staff, uh, through most of the off-season.
And then certainly as the games started playing out, you saw why, and I thought in the first half against Indiana, he was really good.
And, uh, then unfortunately he got injured, um, on the first, uh, play of the third quarter.
Uh, obviously this could be a big assignment for Caleb Benning, uh, who came in and, uh, he did a, had a lot of good plays.
Of course, you know, there's the play where, uh, the 75-yarder was a big play, and the, I think the whole, there's parts of the defense where everybody has a responsibility there.
