A HUGE set of trailers, releases and so on! Lots to discuss and dissect - and this time done LIVE on Twitch. Let me know if you'd like these to stay live or not!
And what do I want to say? What do I want to say about X-Men 97? Welcome in pint size.
Hello.
Hey.
Yeah.
And...
I think that's kind of the case this time around, especially in that I think every individual episode was fine, absolutely fine, no issues at all, apart from the finale, and we'll get to that.
I think every story that they did was fun or engaging or interesting or had a little bit of a good emotional core or whatever, right? But I think the issue is with X-Men 87 Season 2 is that they reached too far and didn't quite hit the home run.
What I thought halfway through season two was that this story was going to be told over two whole seasons.
And that they were kind of going to go for this future timeline and then kind of be stuck there and both be stuck there across the season.
And then they kind of like, as you get to the end, there was other stuff happening, but that you would see them kind of get to a climax point, but still be dealing with Apocalypse by the end of season two and then go into season three.
And I think they're wrapping it up so quickly in the last episode of season...
Two, the finale felt kind of like it undercut all that.
I feel like it would have been really cool to have these two seasons that kind of married into one story, and then whatever season four was could be something totally different, right? It just felt like they cut it short, they cut Apocalypse short, and don't get me wrong, I think I understand this is a Saturday morning cartoon kind of vibe, right? And I understand that that means that sometimes you're going to have to kind of...
you kind of want to do shorter, snappier episode stories within that.
And I think some of those actually did service the larger plot, but I think that they didn't work because, and it's something that Jandra has just said in chat, that season two proved the 20, 25 minute runtime is a drawback.
I actually would disagree with the runtime, but I know what you're saying, Jandra, and it's the same problem.
It comes back the same route.
There weren't enough episodes.
This felt more akin to what an original season the original animated series kind of storylines would go like, but obviously they only had 10 episodes to do it in.
And I think either, as Chandra said, if it was runtime, but I'm not necessarily bothered about the runtime.
I think the episodes are like short, but the runtime slash having more episodes would have really helped this season be what it was intending to be and cover all the different plot points and stuff.
um genre says the way it cut short uh the way it cut short also undermined the big moment in episode three or four uh the one where the thing happened without spoilering us we were you can talk spoilers we talk spoilers if we're reviewing stuff we're talking spoilers it even needs a double run tower double the episode count it works out the same mathematically exactly i think i think I think personally that what they could have done is they could have dropped it in arcs and they could have dropped those first four episodes, then dropped another four episodes.
