As soon as you say that, you've already kind of spoiled it for anyone who's in comics, because everyone who knows m- X-Men comics knows who that is.

Like, they are clearly setting that up at the very beginning of the game.

Like, there is something weird here.

And the th- a- if you know who Nathaniel Essex is, you know what kind of shit he's probably up to.

So I did not, uh-

Maybe that's what he's been cast for.

I know the rumor or the confirmation is for Mr. Sinister.

That's all a front because he's playing Kazark.

Arguably the biggest PlayStation release of the year, is this one worth its weight in adamantium? Let's find out in day one's Marvel's Wolverine review.

Marvel's Wolverine begins in the past, sort of, as we witness the definitely not a bad guy come the end, Nathaniel Essex, coax Wolverine out of living as some feral creature in the wilderness of Canada and back into civilization, joining Team X alongside fellow mutants Mystique and Sabretooth.

Then we leap forward and begin a whirlwind adventure that takes us to a few varied locations, be it the snowy forests of Canada, the city streets of Tokyo, or the island of Madripoor.

Obviously, even post review embargo, I am not one for spoiling the plot, predictable as it may be, but there's some important things to note here.

What is familiar is Logan's ongoing woes with his memory, and indeed this is a central part of the main plot, along with his love for his favourite red-headed mutant, Jean Grey, performed admirably by Critzia Bacos.

There's a fairly decent and surprisingly emotional story here, at least when it comes to video games, and the performances from the cast throughout are thoroughly excellent all around.

Liam McIntyre gives us an excellent tortured Logan that I'd love to see more of, and Troy Baker does a fantastic moustache-twirling scenery-chewing job as haughty Brit Nathaniel Essex.

Unfortunately, the game itself is just too long for the core type of experience that Wolverine delivers.

Liam McIntyre as Logan is really good.

Critia Bajos, I think he's playing... gene gray really good troy baker as nathaniel essex like i don't know i don't know about the comics i didn't know i didn't i've never heard the words nathaniel essex before uh it piqued my interest because i live in essex right but i didn't know who this guy was so as a non-comic book fan i'm going in right now i understand comic fans will load up this game and be like huh nathaniel essex in charge well he's going to be the bad guy but like even as a non-comic book reading player i'm like huh our leader is a guy that looks and sounds evil hmm i wonder what you know what i mean it's like there's some stuff that was ultimately super predictable but i can't deny that i had a lot of fun playing it um it it's just too long in my opinion uh it needs it needs like five hours cut well kind of

crazy to think of that it seemingly was more of an open world game that was heavily cut down on

I've seen bits of that, but a lot of the stuff, that clip I think you're probably referring to where people broke out of the map, a lot of that stuff, you know, you can do similar things in Halo where you can go out of the map and you'll see...

There's a really cool... their interpretation of nathaniel essex is pretty good oh cool gene gray's in it right she's one of the genes in there before she's an x-men um there's uh we got some sentinels sunfire we've got the wendigo saber-tooth mystique oh they're all in it

it's a lot of like early like it's like you know how you watched on x-men 97 like the strike team yeah it's that it's like the saber-tooth mystique like uh team

they're fairly accurate to like any other spider-man media um the wolverine game is actually like the the x-men are team x and they're they're founded and headed by mr sinister he's not mr sinister at this point he's nathaniel essex but like still like it's a very different take it's not even like the generic um professor x isn't there so it's magneto that created the x-men like age of apocalypse sort of thing um and this like picks up where wolverine left the team x number of years ago and gets pulled back in when essex gets kidnapped by trask who is like the sentinel like anti-mutant guy um to help mystique and saber-tooth go rescue essex and that's kind of like the first mission where like it shows you how the combat works and all of that um And, like, I felt like the character interactions were good.

All the acting and stuff was pretty good.

Wolverine is basically Hugh Jackman.

And I'm not convinced those pieces are as strong as people say they are.

Like I'm cooling rapidly on Sinister.

I was very high on him when it came out.

I think he's just really easily overwhelmed.

We know when they announced the initial cast up on the stage at D23, there were some interesting characters they chose to announce, right? We got Mr.

Sinister, which is going to be the villain.

We got...

Right.

Yeah, that was a big thing.

And Adam Driver's finally joining the MCU as Mr. Sinister, and it's a whole big thing.

So, yeah, there was a...

Like I said, once again, there were a lot of, like, cool big moments and cool things, and it was all fun and stuff.
