[laughs] So psychedelics induce temporary altered states of consciousness, and what's primarily driving that is what we call increased neural entropy.

And entropy in neuroscience is a measure of how varied or unpredictable your brain activity is.

So, um, in our normal waking consciousness, our entropy is at kind of a, a baseline level.

Um, and what that means is the repertoire of conscious experience expands, so their, um, subjective experience is, um, richer, um, more diverse than typically.

So, uh, entropy, second law of thermodynamics, energy dissipates into cosmic dust.

But in terms of the brain, if-- So the brain tries to reduce entropy for survival, right? Is that the, the-- From your perspective.

So in order to be conscious, we have to have a certain level of entropy, and we call this kind of the critical window where consciousness emerges.
