Yeah

... you know, Brett Cavanaugh says this, the state Supreme Court says this, we've got a federal judge that says this, you, it feels like you need a PhD in civics to even understand sort of, like, how does this all work and how, and how does this even make sense in terms of, like, who's actually has the final say, and in the end, like, w- what gets implemented and what gets enforced by who? Like, who-

Yeah

... who holds the actual power in the end?

Most of these people are highly educated.

Many of them are PhDs.

And none that I have met have malignant political designs on the American public.

They may, however, radically reconstruct the American political system, build a new politics, and even modify revered and venerable American institutions, facts of which they are blissfully innocent.

So it's interesting 'cause, like, if somebody who listens, who's listened to you may not know that, like, your, your overall background, so you, at least academically, you're a medical doctor.

You got your MD from Bar-Ilan University, then you got a master's in public health from AUB, and then you did your PhD, um, in anthropology from Harvard.

I feel like it's almost like this [chuckles] trajectory, in some ways, like, it's almost like you're like, "Okay, I'm going to a- see this from every single vantage point."

Yeah.

I mean, there isn't really a lot of medical doctor anthropologists.

Uh, although when I, uh, started studying, uh, medical anthropology in the US, I realized there are all these, uh, interesting tracks where, uh, students come to study both medicine and anthropology.

They do dual degree, a, an MD, PhD, and there are a few programs across the US that, uh, offer that.

And, and actually, I'm, at Rutgers, I trained our first MD, PhD student.

I love that intro.

Imagine even younger looking, because Owen looks so young to me when I see him on the screen here, younger looking, newly minted economics PhDs in the basement of the treasury we brought in to work with staff economists there on a tax policy problem.

How to how to help design and improve tax policy or even answer basic questions about changing the tax code.

When we think about these private businesses, they didn't really have the data set up in a way where you could link the businesses to the owners to think about how much tax those businesses paid.

The fraternity house on Greek Row is about 200-yard walk from the King Road crime scene, where police found Ethan, his girlfriend Zanna Kernodel, and her two housemates, Kaylee Gonsalves and Madison Mogan, dead on November 13th of 2022.

After a weeks-long investigation, police arrested Brian Kohlberger, a 28-year-old criminology Ph.D. student from the neighboring Washington State University, at his parents' house in Pennsylvania.

A judge entered not guilty pleas on his behalf in May on four charges of first-degree murder and another of felony burglary.

He could face the death penalty if convicted.

But yeah, the more I thought about that brainy but brawny vibe, the more I realised I have more tracks in my collection that fit the bill.

Tracks that sound like they are semi-professional athletes who are also reading for a PhD.

And to open with that theme, so it's mostly, you'll be mostly getting that techno and that vibe, but there's obviously a little bit of a lecture as well.

And this one is Mackerel Fingers by Ansem.

And this is endurance muscle.

We're talking calisthenics, long holds, L-sits, muscle ups.

And I think, so the brainy part of this one is that it's doing a PhD in, well, all of these tracks, let's say, are doing a PhD in phenology and in wild mammal population.

And that is my friend Michelle's actual PhD.

So I really love, for example, the panel discussion with the empty seats.

In my case, these are 90 minutes for PhD students who are presenting their work.

So it's very science-based.

Why not doing this differently so people interact? So we were thinking of doing a kind of world cafe in those 90 minutes where the speaker is the host at the table and is not only presenting or pitching his research, but also putting one question that people could answer and write on the table.

So this was some ideas.

And we talked also about creating connection moments between the PhD and the senior researcher.

Because the senior researcher are really keen to learn more, even more if it's in the area of AI development.

The PhD students are also very keen to learn from the seniors, so Creating space to make those connections.

Went to Africa after university so I could really get a grounding in Africa.

Then I came back to the U.S. and got a Ph.D. and then got hired at the State Department to be the South African analyst.

Left there.

I joined the think tank here in Washington and started writing all these blogs.
