02 Nov 26 – Battle for the Mind

Let's talk about the phrase I gave you.

Your heart will not embrace what your mind will not accept.

What that means is this.

In the teaching, in people that I know that have taught, let's say, catechism for 20 years, many of them were given materials that were not quite that good.

Not a lot of doctrine.

No apologetics.

Really simple.

Actually, even... uh, dumbed down, made it, make it more simple.

Let's not complicate things.

God is love.

And their, their message was reduced to a vague and, um, you know, not real.

There's no, no meat and potatoes in there, no doctrine.

And what ends up happening when you got those kinds of materials? I remember growing up in a local Catholic school here and finding my book and that I had for First Communion and then for Confirmation in seventh grade.

Well, I did it in seventh grade at that time.

And the books were just really super, super simple, nothing challenging.

No one was ever taught that the Holy Eucharist is not bread, that it is a miracle on the altar, that

priest...

Yeah, transubstantiation, that what we believe as Catholic Christians, the great miracle that takes place on the altar, that ordinary bread and wine are transformed into the body, blood, soul, and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the greatest gift God gave humanity.

We were never taught that.

As a result, none of us knew our faith well enough.

And that's what I'm saying.

When you get to be an adult and you go to first, you know, maybe a college class or a junior college class or even a high school class, you are going to get challenged by people that don't believe in God.

And you're going to get told, hey, do you have evidence for God's existence? Well, I've never seen him.

You've never seen him.

And people were going to start to argue against God's existence.
