Holy Spirit

Let's begin.

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Let's call to mind all those we've promised to pray for.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

Let's pray for that today.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

O God, we are amazed at the gift Christ offers us from the cross, at the triumph that he wins through his suffering, death, and resurrection.

Lord, please bless each one of us with a deep awareness of our sin so that we may understand also the depth and the awesomeness of your mercy and delight in this gift always.

Immaculate heart of Mary, pray for us.

Sacred heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your love.

Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth.

To anyone who has come to know the Lord Jesus Christ in the salvation from sin which he provided on the cross, there is no difficulty in acknowledging his deity.

To anyone who has received the comfort of the Holy Spirit, there is no difficulty in acknowledging that he is indeed the divine comforter come to guide us into all truth.

We know these things by a supernatural understanding.

We do not attempt to explain it fully.

Here once again is Dr. Donald Gray Barnhouse with a message entitled, The Christian's Vindication.

Through the Lord Jesus Christ, we come unto thee, our Father and our God, and in the Holy Spirit.

We have no might, neither know we what to do, but our eyes are upon thee.

Thou hast promised to guide us, and so we pray in this hour that thou wilt give to us that light and strength that we need to know thy truth and to do thy will.

By his death, he would redeem men through pouring out his life's blood as a payment for sin.

But by his death, he would also show a way of life that he wished his redeemed ones to live themselves.

Thus, the Holy Spirit takes up this truth and brings it before us with great force in this portion of the epistle to the Romans.

The great doctrinal sections of the epistle have taught in detail that man was completely ruined in the original sin of Adam and that he embraced that ruin as a pattern of life.

It is the exceeding greatness of his power to usward that believe, that the apostles writing about and wants us to grasp.

We shall need the aid of the Holy Spirit.

Our minds are so small, they're so feeble, they're so inadequate.

We pray therefore as Paul prayed for the Ephesians.

And again, of course, we are face to face with one of these glorious and moving summaries of the whole Christian faith.

You know it's all here in a verse.

And I sometimes have a feeling that if I could only say this as I should say it, and as the Holy Spirit can enable one to say it, there'd be no need to say any more.

Here it is.

And then he just looks at you like, ponder that.

Ooh, that's so deep.

Paul writes, However, you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you.

But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to him, does not belong to Christ.

If you are a Christian, you have the indwelling of the third person of the triune God, namely the Holy Spirit.

He pardoneth and absolveth all them that truly repent and unfeignedly believe his holy gospel.

Wherefore let us beseech him to grant us true repentance and his Holy Spirit, that those things may please him which we do at this present, and that the rest of our life hereafter may be pure and holy, so that at the last we may come to his eternal joy, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Though you do not now see Him, you believe in Him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories.

It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.

Therefore, preparing your minds for action and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
