New Testament

It's a good exercise.

So when we think of the life of Jesus, I think even somebody who hasn't read a lot of the Bible or the New Testament, haven't, you know, encountered Jesus personally in their life...

they still, most of them understand that Jesus was a man who did some incredible things according to history and according to the Bible.

Yep.

And that's good, and that's fine.

And I just, you know, it tweaked me a little bit when I heard the comment, because I, you know, and I know you know, and the listeners too, but certainly the New Testament set a higher standard, right? So the Old Testament, it was, you know, don't commit adultery in the New Testament.

If you even look at a woman with lust in your eyes, you've sinned.

Same thing with if someone strikes you in the Old Testament, it was eye for an eye.

In the New Testament, if anyone strikes you, then turn the other cheek so they can do that also.

And it seems to me that there's a higher call to take God's word literally in the New Testament with respect to personal wealth.

And we see this in the Apostles.

You see that they, you know, frequently, the Apostle Paul tells us to follow them as a pattern, and they followed our Lord Jesus as a pattern.

Effeminate.

got a different Jesus it's damnable heresy according to the Bible say why the New Testament reveals who Jesus Christ is tells us what he did tells us what he taught tells us everything about him you got to receive this Jesus Jesus of the Bible you speak a different language you call him a different name That's okay.

Call him Jesus in Spanish.

Should have memorized more in different languages.

Um, As you stated, it starts in the kind of mid-second century.

And the idea is that the God of the Old Testament is different from the God of the New Testament.

And somehow the Old Testament God they see as vengeful and angry and with a lot of wrath and And the New Testament God is being loving and merciful and kind.

So it really creates this distinction that the early church recognized as a heresy right away because we have one God.

And he is one God, right? And so he's triune, of course.

The Holy Spirit is, because all these things have creeped in.

We have to know the true God and who he is.

And the God of the Bible, the scriptures, both the Hebrew and the New Testament, is a God who doesn't change.

And he just said in my ear that he finds the Old Testament a bit boring.

Old Testament? The New Testament's the boring one.

The Old Testament's got people getting their heads ripped off.

Totally.

That happened a lot.

They're very keen on tearing that apart.

And as we discovered recently, because we were having a chat about this on the wireless, and I asked Gorge to look it up, the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, none of them met Jesus.

No, that's right.

And it's the longest one that I know I've ever done here at Brookside, but it's, What we're doing is praying through the names of God as they're revealed throughout Scripture, both Old and New Testament.

And this is only week three.

I'm sorry, it was week two.

And then it swings, right? So we're like in this pendulum.

And so like how do we as Christians then interact with good and evil in a way that's beneficial and not legalistic? Yeah.

Well, so in the New Testament, I forget the exact verse, but it talks about discerning the spirits.

And the implication is you're comparing that back to scripture.

God said I'm going to turn him into witnesses of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Lord said, if I can do it to a solid Tarsus and then let him write two-thirds in the New Testament, bring him up to heaven and give him the greatest revelation that mankind has ever seen, don't you think that I can also do this? Have you forgotten, says the Lord, that my arm is not short, that it cannot reach, and my ear is not heavy, that it cannot hear, and there is nothing to too hard for me and I am not restrained from anything my weapons says the Lord are not natural weapons and God said the defeat that the church has experienced it's because it says in Galatians you started out in the spirit but you wound up in the flesh You start believing in technology.

And instead of crucifying the old man, you rehabilitated him.

And then you couldn't figure out why he went rogue on you in the midst of the battle.
