620: Giant Honkin’ Things in the Back

I g- I, I, I mean, I realize we just backed into that, but $300 for an Apple TV is just insane.

[laughs]

Yeah.

Of all the price hikes and all the costs of Apple products, that one is, to my mind, perhaps the most baffling.

It's like, the, the iPhone 2 at $2,000, that's a lot of money, but, like, it is a expensive devi- like, I can understand.

That is $2,000 worth of engineering there.

Yeah.

I'm not sure the Apple TV is $300 of engineering.

[laughs]

Yeah.

I, um-

You know, I, I mean, I think that the thing that they are testing maybe is that for people who want...

Like, they know that other devices out there are much cheaper, um, but that people who want the Apple TV want the Apple TV, and they're testing to see how much they're willing to pay for it.

[laughs]

More loyalty there, you think, than in other Apple products?

I think, you know...

Well, I mean, not necessarily, like, the phone, but there's a fair amount...

Like, for people who want a device added to their TV, right? Who don't wanna use the TV's base operating system in order to connect to these various services, um, want that Apple TV because, like, I mean, like me, I don't, I don't connect my TVs to the internet.

Like, they do not get on the internet.

I am not going to use the built-in apps.

There's no way.

And so eventually I will have to buy myself an Apple TV.

We have three TVs currently, and we have three Apple TVs of varying ages that are connected to them, and I was thinking, boy, the last, you know, that oldest one is, uh, really long in the tooth.

I would like to get a new one.

I- if, if it had been about, like, you know, around $100 or even $150, I would have bought one easily.
