Hello, on Last Word this week, the magician's magician, Juan Tamariz, the Spanish godfather of close-up magic.

And Pauline Claydon, the ballerina who danced her way through the Blitz.

But if that makes him sound serious, he wasn't.

He was a funny, charismatic performer who appeared regularly on TV in Spain and here in the UK alongside Paul Daniels.

Now, historically, there has been a lot of religious connection between Spain and Ireland, but I still wonder if Irish monks in the 8th century would be basing their exorcism on Spanish rituals.

Yeah, I felt that that reference was kind of something to referring to the Spanish Inquisition, which I, of course, didn't expect.

But at the same time, it feels like it's like a shorthand for, OK, we need some kind of Christian, not necessarily magic, but kind of mysticism, exorcism, things like that.

And you would go to the Spanish because their Inquisition is the most famous one, which, yeah, sure, if you're going to.

Why not just have it be a Latin or an Irish one? Because the Irish, they really focused, because they were trying so hard to defeat all the pagans, the Christians actually kind of worked really hard To establish Christianity, and they had to fight hard because the pagans didn't like them, basically.

So I would assume that in this kind of setting, the Irish would probably develop all kinds of exorcism rites on their own.

Whereas others will have difficulties and because of the circumstances of their community, you know, if they're kind of people who... are at home with children who are involved with that type of community, they won't have a proficiency in the language that other people have.

If you go to America, you have US citizens who live in Florida who speak no English, for whom Spanish is the first language.

Some people would say that's a problem.

Some people would.
