Reddit a year later, 2005.

[upbeat music] You have to walk pretty far out of the valley to escape the shadow of Rupert Murdoch, because say what you want about the guy, he knew that power came from owning audience attention.

He ran tabloid newspapers that appealed to the masses, and in the time after the '90s, he made digital acquisitions to grab more audience attention, notably buying Myspace.

In the '90s, the battleground was pay TV.

In fact, his stated goal was to have a TV satellite network that spanned the globe.

They'd have to wait an hour, maybe more, depending on how busy they were.

Get the pictures, scan that shit into their computer, and then put it on MySpace.

That's what they have to do.

People didn't want to go through all that effort.

That launched a year after 9-11, September of 2002.

Friendster, MySpace, Facebook, Reddit, and Twitter were all just right after 9-11.

9-11, and in that order.

Friendster, MySpace, Facebook, Reddit came out in 2005.

Twitter in 2006.

And that is so common, I think, for a lot of artists under the age of 35.

Like, literally none.

Facebook was, what, 2004? MySpace, 03? Friendster was 02? Like, there was literally no social media 25

Um, you know, it's a great platform that you can build off of, um, I think that at the end of the day, you have to look at what these platforms are offering.

And while it's great, like, you know, almost to have like a MySpace for your car, it's what's your objective? You know, what's your, you know, cause this does take time to really curate and actually put all these photos and upload them and not only upload them, but take the photos, you know? And so, you know, there's a lot of time that goes in on the backend to build this profile.

And yeah, what's the underlying objective to say, look at me, or is it to sell the car ultimately one day? You know, and that's the one thing we've talked about a little bit before was whether or not you're building the car for yourself or you're building the car for someone else, you know, and clicks and views and going, wow, this thing's badass.

MySpace came out one year later in 03.

Facebook followed in 04.
