Well, hello everybody.
It's been a little bit since I've recorded something.
This one's been planned for a little while and just life does not stop happening to me.
I live in Utah and the entire state is on fire.
And I had to leave my home for a little bit, actually, the very week that I was intending to record this.
So lots going on.
But anyway, we'll get right into it.
I'm going to do something slightly different.
This is a reading and commentary episode, which I've done plenty of.
But this is one of my own essays, which I don't have a lot of.
But I do write some things on the Patreon every once in a while.
And this one was actually the most involved one.
write like neck and neck with the frog and toad essay but um this definitely involved kind of collates a lot more um reading and research and thinking um like over the years But I'm going to lean more heavily on the reading than on the commentary, but I might find it necessary to footnote a little bit.
This would be a good, if you've just recently listened to the Northrop Frye episodes that I've done, this actually would be a good follow-up to those because it deals with Frye as well, which this was written years ago, so there was no, that's just kind of serendipitous.
And I know that some people came to Patreon, you know, and they, through the podcast, and you mainly probably know as interested in just reading an article or something.
So this may be your first, you may not have read this yet and it may be better to listen to it.
So I think I'm gonna do whenever I write something and I do have more things in the future that I plan on writing.
I will eventually go and record an audio version of that essay as well so that people for whom that's primarily what they're interested in is listening to audio can get those as well.
But yeah, if you're unaware, there's some stuff you can read if you feel like doing that.
Also, if you have read this before it is slightly revised in preparation for recording this I reread it and I can't reread something of my own without editing It's not heavily revised But it is somewhat different this essay combines my two favorite subjects probably which is literature and philosophy and I'm not credentialed expert in either.
So I do this with incredible hubris at the risk of really mucking up both, but whatever.
This is what I think.
You're either interested or not, and I hope that it gives you some interesting things to think about.
So here we go.
