Shoulda Bet More with Will Hill - Ep. 399 Matt Youmans

I came on here on Tuesday after that disaster of a game too.

I said, "You know what? I'm not gonna do the funeral.

I'm not gonna do the postmortem until they're done.

There's plenty of time for that." I actually thought they'd win game three, and then who knows in game four.

You'd have Schlitter in game five.

Tried to be glass half full, but you can't get too, uh, too optimistic with this Yankee group under Aaron Boone, and especially with no Judge, the Yankees just didn't have enough offense, and they are once again eliminated in pretty embarrassing fashion.

An AL East team that spends a fraction of what they s- spend in their building, they get swept.

This time last year, we're talking about them losing in four against Toronto, uh, another division foe that spends a fraction of what they spend.

And you just look at these eliminations under Boone, and it's getting swept by the Astros in 2022.

They lose in five to the Dodgers.

They missed the playoffs in 2023.

They just have no fight.

They never rally back.

They never get off the mat.

When they lose game one, they're done, and they were done.

They just didn't hit.

They just didn't perform, and they can make all the excuses they want.

Yeah, Judge is probably the best hitter in the sport when he's healthy.

He is the best hitter in the sport, and he wasn't healthy.

That's gonna hurt you, but you know what? Um, y- you gotta perform better than that, and for all the money you're paying Max Fried, you gotta get a better performance out of Fried for all that money.

Bellinger, same thing, and to me, it comes down to, and we can go back through all the years, all the guys they passed on in free a- free agency, whether it's Manny Machado.

I know people, it's not their favorite player, but they could've had Freddie Freeman at first base.

They went with Rizzo, the cheaper option.

Probably cost them a championship.

They didn't-- They, they passed on Bryce Harper.
