Tosh Lupoi

It's Stein's first big game at home.

I think we saw last week where sort of like Tosh Lupoi, where like first big game at home.

against a seasoned coach.

I know Chesney is, is, was new UCLA, but guys coached a lot of football as head coach.

So coming into week one, you've got a UCLA team that's like, we have a chance.

And the chance was taken for the Bruins to go on the road to Cal, a rivalry that will be renewed over the next few seasons, and hopefully will be just as sold out and exciting Back and forth battles between Lupoi and Chisney.

But the Bruins got the leg up.

They're going to have a big recruiting weekend this weekend.

Obviously, they did last week, but you're talking about when they beat Clemson last year, and they hung 26 on, uh, um, Tennessee last year, right? I mean, we watched that.

So I, the only, the danger here is if, if Cal's defense, if Tosh Lupoi's defense doesn't figure this out, and you just find yourself in a shootout, at that point, I, I think all hell breaks loose, right? I think now you're talking about a scenario where, all right, maybe it's just the two quarterbacks going at it, and we sold Steve Angeli short after getting hurt and all of that.

That's the only thing I'm gonna say is now they gotta go back after a game they were out-physicaled against UCLA and take a cross-country trip and play Steve Angeli, who's apparently a wagon by the numbers.

I, I don't, I'm not as confident, quite as confident as you guys are in this pick.

Okay, so a few things that play here.

One, I think what we saw in week one for Cal was Tosh Lupoi was a first-time head coach.

And there's a lot of elements of preparing for a season, for a game, that if you've never gone through it before as the head man, they're new.

So it was a lot of new for him, which means...

I mean, maybe this morning when we had our staff meeting for Quick U.

You know, because a lot of the guys, even the guys that worked for me, I got guys that were in kindergarten, you know, when it happened and all that stuff.

I remember it like – you know how you just have moments in your life you'll never forget? Of course.

I was at Northwestern State.

I remember nobody knowing what to do.

And

so I remember, in fairness to Tommy Tuberville, him looking at us like, you guys are not going to ask football questions, are you? Like right now? Really? Yeah.

And people started and I was just so, I couldn't wait to go home.

So it was a lot of new for him, which means... as a leader there's a lot of new for the rest of everyone around you having to follow your guidance on the other side you have syracuse and fran brown who learned the hard way you got to have quarterbacks now he's got like a million on this roster but more importantly the right one is healthy steve angeli is healthy i know it was new hampshire but he did what he had to do they also have amari odom the former transfer from kenesaw state i believe And Malachi Nelson.

And kudos to, to UCLA for playing the well, the way they did.

Ron, this past Saturday was Tosh Lupoi's first game as a head coach.

So how would you assess his performance with everything leading up to the game, the actual game, and then how he's handling his first loss as a head coach?

Well, I'll tell you what, I thought he handled the whole week in preparation very nicely.
