Anthony Volpe

I, I don't remember another game going 13 plus, um, i- this year.

Uh, yeah, it's, it's a disappointing loss, especially with, you know, the games going into extra innings tied 2-2 and the comeback that you get, Volpe having the big hit late.

Like, all of that is great.

Um, and then you, you, you, you, you falter it late, and you have to use bullpen arms that you would've rather not used.

A- a- and having that kind of momentum and not being able to capitalize on it is really frustrating.

It always has to be a great RBI single by Aaron Judge, a great Slide at home play by Jason Dominguez, Anthony Volpe, George Lombard.

It's perfect just like that because, you know, the way the energy the guys put, you know, day in, day out in the game, like they deserve that attention.

But what happens after that? What happens to Ben Rice? Do you force him at first base and just throw Luis Garcia Jr.

at second base and say, well, to hell with maybe what Anthony Volpe's doing defensively or offensively.

To hell with what Jazz can possibly do.

Because frankly, if that's what you end up doing, I guess you probably should have moved on from Jazz.

No, he absolutely could have.

But I'm actually really curious, though.

You're talking about Anthony Volpe and wanting to see it through.

Well, it's not so much a blind.

I have a better solution with players like that.

I suggested this about Anthony Volpe a year and a half ago, and the Yankees are finally doing it now.

Not that they listen to me.

And that is, just view him differently.

I never want to see you again.

How about you minimize them a little bit until they earn it? And it's kind of crazy what's happening on the Yankee side.

Anthony Volpe got minimized.

He became a minor leaguer who had to learn other positions.

After you lose a game like this to Minnesota, where you leave a million people on base, Lombard's defense and extra innings was spotty, especially the one that ended the game.

If it was Volpe, everybody would be crushing him.

Lombard, in a way, gets a pass.

In the interest of fairness, I think it's worth bringing up because, like I said, if it was Volpe, he'd be getting criticized a lot, and Lombard, nobody seems to say anything, and he's just got to be better than that defensively because you can't, and I know he's a young player, but you can't make mistakes like that to cost your team a game in a pivotal spot in a situation where you're playing a gutless franchise who always rolls over and allows you to just walk all over them.

When you're in a pennant race like this, when you're four games at the time out of first, you can't have that type of loss.

So now it's five back in the loss column and only three series left for the Yankees, including a huge monumental one, four-game set against Tampa.

I have an idea for you.

Garcia being a born second baseman, I know he's been playing first lately, but maybe they put him back at second, and then Rice goes to first then, and then judge will be the DH.

Look, it was Anthony Volpe making those mistakes in the field in extra innings.

Everybody would be roasting him.

including myself.

So the worst outcome there, Ramos ended up landing on.

And then as far as Lombard defensively, look, I've been a huge critic of Anthony Volpe.

A lot of people are.

And rightfully so.

But if we do hear anything, we'll obviously get it to you immediately.

Now, as far as the game goes, look, I am not exactly the biggest Anthony Volpe supporter.

I think I've made that very clear throughout my time here on After Hours.

That being said, I have to be fair.

If Anthony Volpe had the extra innings defensive performance that George Lombard had, we'd all be killing him.

We'd all be roasting him.

You know, Lombard, who bursted onto the scene, had one of the best debuts you could ever possibly have.
