James and Kyle discuss recent signings (Krebs, Mantha, Zegras, etc.) and recent trade rumors (Hellebuyck). Arbitration is near, so they dive into how it works, using Jamie Drysdale as an example…

So crabs, um, So this was, I guess at the start of the off season, kind of an interesting one, um, to project at least because he's kind of been that bottom six kind of solid all around for a bottom six player.

Um, as he would need to be up in the lineup a little bit, sometimes you'd start to see the flaws a bit more.

Um, but at the same time, he was one of those players that was able to jump up and be serviceable in a bigger role.

And then this past year, much more often, he found himself higher in the lineup, um, ended up, I believe having a career year points wise.

Um, looked pretty solid so we had projected three by three and a half um i think pretty quickly especially july 1st once we started to see like where the true fourth liners were falling um This could have been one that we looked at and said, all right, he's probably going to be able to fetch a little bit better than three and a half because quite honestly, some very clear fourth line guys, very little offensive ability.

And quite honestly, like with where the market's going, that's probably very fair.

again, who can kind of jump up, play a much larger role if needed and be pretty solid in the bottom six.
Well, it did, it did start as a four by $3.5 million contract by Elliot Friedman for about five minutes.
I think that was what... as much as kind of figuring out where the sabers i guess it was figuring out how the sabers valued him was was very much a struggle like as an restricted free agent we kind of have to factor that into our analysis a little bit is how is his retaining team going to value him i And I think we'll end up diving a little bit more into Buffalo because there's a little bit more smoke and discussion to be had there in a second.
So I could have seen Buffalo trying to go anywhere from a one-year to four, five, six years, get Krebs locked in as a core piece for quite a while.
They could have just walked him to unrestricted free agency with the plan to move on in a couple of years.
