Michigan Wolverines face critical questions as the offense struggles to find cohesion ahead of the Penn State showdown. Is Jason Beck’s system failing to unlock the team’s full potential, or is buy-in…
Now, it, it's not even remotely surprising, right? Of course, because you have a scenario here where the defense is number three in total defense, number 20 in scoring defense, which is admirable even being at number 20 given, you know, the situations the offense has put it in.
I know we're talking offense here, we're talking Jason Beck, but the first thing that stands out to me is Gennaro Gilford discussing where they are as a defense, and he's like, "Yeah, the great thing is, is you just see the buy-in.
That's why when we get a short field, we're having a fair amount of success at holding teams to, to field goals, to getting off the field, to all of these things." And I mention that because you go on the reverse of that, and you've got Jason Beck talking about, like, wh- why did things, why were things working at New Mexico and Utah, but why aren't they working here? And he mentions, like, yeah, you know, you know, we, you know, we want our players to be bought in.
Like, how do you, how do you fix it, you know, getting everyone to buy in? There is a dichotomy between those two sides of the ball.
You have a defensive group that is fully bought in to what Jay Hill is doing, and it's obvious.
Now, there are certain elements of the defense that aren't working quite as well as maybe they hoped, and that's just one spot, and that's the turnovers, right? And that's that they're not generating them.
But on the other side, you have where things aren't working well because they are turning the ball over, and that's the primary thing there.
So yeah, there, the, it's, it's just kind of funny to, to look at it and see, all right...
But you, you have a scenario where the defense is completely bought in to what Jay Hill is trying to do, and it's clear at this point that the offense is not bought in whatsoever into what Jason Beck is doing.
And with that, Jason Beck talked about, like, yeah, you know, you start losing some games, you start having some issues, then of course that's...
But, like, it's, it's not been a cohesive unit since the beginning here, right? So it, you wonder at a lot of these things.
Uh, what, what can Michigan do to kind of get those players to buy in? Because ultimately they, they have to or they're just gonna lose way more games, right? Like, that's just what, where they're at.
