Episode 490:Salt Reset Vacation

Um, as far as your question about gardening goes, no, not really.

Uh, I will throw this one out to the group though.

Ladies and gentlemen, I live in Chicago, and I have diligently been rehabbing that thing that's between, that like no man's land between the sidewalk and the road.

People call that the avenue.

I don't know if that's accurate.

People call that the bonnet.

I don't know if that's accurate.

Um, to me it's the no man's land between the sidewalk and the road.

There is a strip where nothing grows, and that was kind of what I was trying to solve for.

There's always been a strip where nothing grows, and so last year I had my kids help me.

We dug all of the dirt up.

We turned it over in an attempt to kill the grass.

We put new dirt down, and then we planted, and there's still this strip where either nothing grows or everything grows kinda m- lame, right?

[laughs]

It's where the city water main line runs into my house.

And so what, ladies and gentlemen, could possibly be happening with that water pipe that makes things not grow even though I put down new dirt last year and this year? 'Cause it's embarrassing.

[laughs] But there was, there was grass there initially.

Is that right?

Well, up until last year when I tore it up, it was a little bit sandy.

It had a little bit of like backfill kinda stuff in it, and it was mostly weeds and nonsense and a little bit of grass.

And so mostly what I planted was wildflowers and clovers.

This year the wildflowers didn't come back, but the clovers came back with a fucking vengeance except for that one strip.

Uh, and, and it's like it's not even like, oh, the, the things in there are like dwarfed or whatever.

There's still like bare dirt, and the thing is that's the new dirt I put down.
