All right, man, Canucks training camp is right around the corner, and we got you covered here on Locked On Canucks.

The number one asset now on the block? Canada's four biggest airports, Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver, with Carney announcing his intentions to let private companies run them.

The government of Canada will retain ownership of the underlying land and assets, but we will unlock their true value by bringing in new capital and expertise to their operations and their growth.

But what's exactly for sale and how it would impact costs and services is unclear, but that's not stopping BC's NDP premier from being on board if service levels stay the same.

All I know is a guy by the name of Jeff Appleby, uh, Greater Vancouver realtor, walked out of a meeting and let the world know that on the table was the possibility of a MLB expansion team in Vancouver.

So, uh, to give us all the details, uh, whatever details he's got, we're joined by Jeff right now.

Jeff, thanks for being here.

He's a diehard Jays fan, baseball fan.

Uh, I grew up playing and watching, but I don't follow as close as I used to.

And he said, you know, "There's a group that's putting together a bid for, uh, an MLB team in Vancouver.

Come check it out." I went, and I w- I was super surprised to hear just how far along it was, how organized they were, uh, and, and just that it was m- more of a realistic possibility than just a news headline, you know?

Days, hours, minutes to the start of camp for the Vancouver Canucks as the NHL season is that close, the regular season at the end of the month, and then 84 games of a regular season.

Today's guest is a former Canuck, now a current player development man for this hockey club.

A guy that a, a tremendous amount of fans would remember from his 15 years with this hockey club.

Actually came over to Canada a year before playing for Vancouver, uh, to play in junior hockey in Kelowna, um, with the Rockets.

And, uh, uh, he, he did it to acclimatize himself on the insistence of the hockey club after he was drafted in the third round.

So we're gonna spend some time with Alex Edler to discuss his time in Kelowna, his time with the Canucks, leaving the Canucks, and what his new role is in trying to work with the young defensemen in this organization.

Turns out that they are, as per September 2026, as of right now, there's at least seven Canadian police services or detachment that have launched or are currently testing drones as a first responders that can send remotely operated drones to selected 911 calls before officers arrive.

The Delta Police Force Department, the Durham Regional Police Services, York Regional Police, the RCMP in Red Deer, Mirabel Police and Fire Services, this is just outside of Montreal, Canada, Vancouver Police Department, and of course, the Calgary Police Service.

Another thing that they kinda mentioned in the article, but they don't really explain what it means, and I'm, I, I can tell you this as somebody that has owned drones in the past, I had very, very good drones that are worth thousands of dollars.

Now, let's talk conspiracy theories for a second.

Peter Griswold is saying, "Or just an idea, use them for wildfires." Well, well, w- it's pretty interesting, but you can do a simple Google, and Vancouver has drones that they deploy in emergency situations that are capable of starting a fire as in...

You know when they do burn lines to prevent the fire from crossing a certain area? They're gonna burn an area to stop the spread.

Prime Minister Mark Carney is unveiling a plan to open up Canada's four largest airports, including Vancouver International, to private investment.

Travis Persaud is at YVR with more on why this is being done and what it means for passengers.

The Prime Minister says private capital could improve the passenger experience here while bringing in billions of dollars for other projects across the country.

Since

1992 YVR has been run by the not-for-profit Vancouver Airport Authority.

Now Ottawa wants to bring private investors into the cockpit.

Absolutely.

And, you know, recently, you know, we've kind of done a little bit of exposure on what's going on at Glad Tidings in Vancouver.

Literally, $800,000 has gone missing.

And do you know what? No one answers it.

In 1953, the nomadic Inuit people living here were facing a profound crisis.

Their traditional caribou hunting routes were shifting, leading to severe famines, while the Canadian government was forcibly relocating families away from their ancestral lands.

That same year, a 19-year-old living in the modern comforts of Vancouver claimed to have a sudden, radical vision during a Saturday night prayer to travel north and minister to the Inuit.

Her name was Kay Gordon.

While getting comfortable at a fireside chat, just as Prime Minister Mark Carney made his pitch to global investors, the federal government put a sizable public asset in play.

Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal international airports are now open for private investment.

To provide better passenger service, to reinvest in our regional airports, to reinvest in other forms of transportation infrastructure.

Ottawa will maintain ownership of airport land.

You pay in fees on every ticket while thousands of good jobs hit the chopping block.

Though even within NDP party ranks, opinions are divided with the premier of British Columbia telling CTV News he's in favour if it helps build smaller regional airports.

We have a world-class airport in Vancouver.

It's in fact the best airport in North America year after year.

We're going to be putting two clusters into the facility in Merritt, British Columbia.

And having Hubert with his vast amount of experience, as you'd mentioned in the capital markets, also on the Toronto and Vancouver exchanges, is just going to bring that extra experience, a different independent perspective to Buzz in a period when we're going through this growth where capital allocation is very key, governance and accountability become more and more increasingly strategic as we build out the infrastructure within Canada.

And I guess lastly, you've got a lot of experience as far as yourself and Frank Holmes and others like that.

And adding that extra layer on the board of directors really allows the company, as you mentioned, to take steps forward that may take them a shorter amount of time than you would if you were just running off a regular board, not someone with this type of experience.
