In a September third letter to Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said the temporary signs would warn visitors that the National Museum of American History is being used, quote, "as a tool to advance personal radical ideologies." In a statement shared with NPR, Senator Merkley calls it another step in a well-planned pressure campaign by the Trump administration and says he will, quote, "fight like hell to protect the Smithsonian's independence." The twelve signs cost an estimated seven thousand dollars each.

So they sell to the Smithsonian when the Smithsonian... smithsonian gets it they put it on display there was a congressman in the late 1800s i'm gonna say like 1890 something and he saw to the smithsonian and said you know the problem right now we have in congress is we don't have enough christians that actually study or live like jesus like they don't study the teachings of jesus and he's like what if we brought in like said hey let's take what jefferson did jefferson studied the moral teachings of jesus every night before went to bed we could reprint that we will give it to every freshman congressman that comes to congress and and we will encourage them study the teachings of jesus just like jefferson did so the very first time it was printed it was 1904. it still was not called the jefferson bible when it was printed it was called the life and moral teachings of jesus but when it was distributed they're like what is this and somebody's like that's that's the the jefferson bible it got the name the jefferson bible not because jefferson had gone through and cut out everything he didn't believe in but rather that was the easiest way to explain the abbreviation of what it was it was actually an abbreviation of the four gospels with the major moral teachings of jesus from the four gospels so when when people say well he cut out all the miracles and all the supernatural i always challenge people have you read it and they're always like no and i'm like i have several times and what i can tell you is it is true a lot of the miracles and a lot of the supernatural is not in there including by the way the resurrection of jesus isn't in there and that's a different conversation because jefferson had questions to some extent about that again different conversation but what is also incorrect is that he cut out all of the miracles and in all of the supernatural because in it it does mention angels demons heaven hell and miracles So when people are like, well, it doesn't have any of that.
