In this episode, TrainmasterGT and Usman Assemble to discuss Earth’s Mightiest Magic Cards. Together, they discuss the set’s biggest standouts, misses, and build-around cards for Cube designers. Is…
Usman JamilGuestTrainmasterGTHostSo I, speaking of things I love, I, I don't love this Marvel set, which is kinda sad, because, like, I used to really like the Marvel, the films at the very least, like the MCU films, when that was kinda, like, the big thing.
Like, I still remember going to see the original Avengers movie in theaters, and, like, it was so cool seeing all these, like, characters kinda like team up for the first time.
Like, it was just a very novel thing when they first did it, and I feel like it's- Was just really special, and I feel like it kind of, you know, ult- ultimately it just feels like they made a season of TV, but it was all, you know, films when, when I think about it retrospectively.
But, like, for the time, I think that was a very cool idea, and I think they did a good job of that film series.
I mean, it wasn't that they're all not very good, it's just some of them weren't.
Anyway, like, it, it definitely felt like they were making this particular set a little too late, uh, to kinda match with, like, when people were most engaged with Marvel from what I could come with.
Like, Marvel's been around forever, like, as the comics.
Um, like some of them go back to, like, the '50s, I think.
So, like, you know, it's, it's been a minute.
There's a lot to draw from here.
So I definitely think size-wise they had enough to draw from to make this work, and I feel like given the number of cards in the set and, and the fact that there are still lots of things, you know, missing from the Marvel world.
There's no, like, there's no Thor stuff really other than Thor and Loki as they relate to the Avengers.
L- uh, the whole cosmic side and the whole, like, sorcery Marvel side of this is missing.
There's just so much to draw from still that, you know, obviously there's a lot of source material, and I know they're gonna make more of these sets in the future.
But it kinda feels like despite the raw amount of material here, oh, the set just feels kinda boring, uninspired.
It's weird, 'cause again, there are, like, over 600 new cards.
I think there's about 1,000 cards total in this release when you include reprints.
And sure, a bunch of those are in, like, the Commander decks and, like, the Jumpstart packs.
But still, there are so many cards, and I just, I don't know, I'm not really vibing with them.

It's kinda weird, because, like, Marvel, you know, like, when I was younger, like, it w- Marvel and stuff like that, like, wasn't the, the mainstay that it is now.
