Warriors 26-27 Season Preview | Undervalued or Just Right?

I'm wondering how you're feeling about the expectations because a lot of the low expectations are like narrative based.

And a lot of them are, you know, understandably tied to the health risks.

But then you see a lot of these analytics models who have them as like a 43 to 46 win team.

So like some expectations aren't that low.

How do you square that?

Well, first off, we're comparing them to expectations of prior years.

And there's just simply no way to delude oneself into thinking that this is going to turn into anything of significance.

And if this was a younger team, then you'd be like, oh, well, they're building towards something.

But they're an old team, so they're not building towards anything.

They're just trying to tail off as kindly as possible.

I don't actually fundamentally disagree with a lot of the analytics stuff.

Like, this team is preposterously deep.

Now, they don't have much of a ceiling, but they got a lot of dudes who can kind of give them good minutes.

And in that, in a modern NBA landscape, that might be entirely... baseball coded now where it's like who has the deepest team that that could be really valuable but again okay great you're maybe the sixth seed at absolute best you're in the play-in tournament on a good year and the downside is now you probably have the number one draft pick because of the new lottery rigging rules so It's not all that bad.

It's just not all that exciting either.

And we're comparing this to an era which has been long over but had some tail to it.

where the expectation wasn't just win championships.

The expectation was to be the greatest team of all time.

And in a weird way, 22 kind of screwed that up for everybody.

But this is the first time that you and I were both at Warriors Media Day.

There was no national media there.

Usually it's a zoo when Steph Curry and Draymond Green and Steve Kerr are around.

No one cares on the outside.

And again, I'm kind of for it.

Part of that is because this league is so interesting right now and a lot of other places are pulling some of the national media.
