We should note, though, it is not the first time he has promised a cash payment like this.
He promised Americans $2,000 rebates during his tariff policy when that was enacted.
But after court challenges to the tariffs themselves, those $2,000 checks so far have not materialized.
That by itself is what should make everyone lose any hope that that's a genuine promise from Trump.

That was just him doing a policy he ran on that, agree or disagree with it, is like a policy that's often discussed.
Should we give more relief to people who have student debt? And they said that was him trying to pay off young voters to vote for him.
Or whenever Trump did a stimulus check and then Biden said, if I get elected, I'll do another stimulus check because we need the help getting out of the pandemic.
But now Trump's saying, I won't give this to you until after the election, even though I already have a majority in the House and Senate.
So I'm just saying, help me continue the status quo and then I'll do it instead of doing it now.
