LexG with some early August reviews as the summer winds down. Main event here is the blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with bonus superhero movie riffing. Then some recent odds and ends…
You notice I'm going through every comic book movie of my life rather than talk about Spider-Man Brand New Day, which I liked a lot of.
Again, it's just, like, it's very hard to make it electrifying when I think it's well done, and it's also, like, I don't know, it caught me by surprise.
I can't be all flipping and, you know, goofing on Supergirl and all the tropes and things that don't work.
'Cause what I'm getting to is, you know, every time Spider-Man comes along, as they say, you know, this is for everybody.
And then Batman is dark and edgy, and it's basically a c- that's what they're always trying to make it into, a crime movie.
This is, in the last one, somebody was like, "This is Batman as Zodiac crossed with Chinatown or something," when, when it was the Pattinson one.
He was still [laughs] hanging on to a hockey arena scoreboard, which is my favorite image of that, [laughs] where he's just, like, going back and forth like a pendulum.
Kids love him, you know? Who didn't love Spider-Man growing up? And I'm like, I, I, I didn't, I don't know.
When I was a kid, I idolized, like, Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds and Charles Bronson.
It was sort of, like, a weird thing about me as a kid, is, like, I wanted to be an adult.
But by the time they got around to making the movies, I don't wanna root for a teenager.
