It had a very... horror movie-ish vibe in certain scenes when elizabeth wilson was chasing him so um so yeah i really enjoyed it i really liked the dr strange battle with the music um notes and the colors going back and forth and everything like that so um so yeah we'll see if the post-credit scene leads to anything i have no idea possibly that was the

What are you guys watching? Good Things I Watched Recently, A Simple Plan, the great Sam Raimi thriller from 1998, super underrated, really in his Coen Brothers zone.

Raimi and Coen Brothers came up together doing the DIY thing, worked together on some of their early films.

And so this is Raimi really kind of, I don't know if it was deliberate or not, but it feels very much in the Coen zone.

Like, I'm just sort of, um ...

They're not my, my, you know, Raimi are my favorite Spider-Man movies, but they're like ...

I've never disliked any of these movies, but I've never wanted to rush out and rewatch them-

Yeah, it has like a little like shades of eraser head in there.

And then there's like the shit where I'm like, okay, so there's a little bit of Sam Raimi.

And then it gets like hardcore Cronenberg.

Yeah.

Yeah.

No, there was times while watching this, and you really touched on it.

I was like, wow, that's definitely a little Sam Raimi, Evil Dead kind of.

And then there was stuff where I'm like, this kind of reminds me of Eraserhead.

That's not fun at all.

Which is why like Sam Raimi regrets the tree scene in the original Evil Dead.

And so it's like, we just don't need that in our fun movies.

Yeah.

this doesn't feel as destitute of a situation as maybe they want us to think it is.

But, um, and to me, I think these new Evil Dead films have always been trying to take Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead and apply Raimi's elements into it, almost like they're trying to have cake and eat it too.

Mm.

Um, and I think that's why they always come off a little bit like, what are you, I dunno what you want me to do with this, kinda.

And I looked up because I knew this was one of Peter Jackson's earlier movies.

I was curious how old he was because Evil Dead was directed by Sam Raimi when it was like 2021.

And to me it has that same sort of like – rampant creativity in this movie.

That only someone who is really young and kind of, like, dumb, and I mean that in a good way, would want to pull off.

But maybe it's worth revisiting.

Maybe Back to the Future 3, much like Spider-Man 3, the Sam Raimi, is better when you watch it on an island and not compare it to the other two.

Maybe the same goes for Back to the Future 3.
