‘Clayface’ Review | Is DC’s First Horror Movie a Win or a Mess? + What’s Next for the DCU?
J

But like in the movie theater, I felt like I was just one of the rare few movies that I felt like was just like in like an uphill climb of tension.
J
3:54Jagger MayHOST
in the body horror moments, like you mentioned on the airplane, all the various scenes of body horror was definitely like specifically body horror and not and not so much So far removed from Gotham and DC that I didn't feel like I was like to me is the best of both worlds where I got a little bit of horror and then it wasn't so far removed from DC that I still felt like I was getting a backstory on one of the more interesting Batman villains that aren't just the Joker.
A
4:27Alfredo BrownHOST
Yeah, I agree with you 100% because I think that if you're looking at the beginning of this movie, you can say that it might be the weakest part of the movie, if not for the pace.
A
4:38Alfredo BrownHOST
The pace going through that weak part so fast and getting you to all the good stuff, I think was the absolute best decision they could do.
A
4:46Alfredo BrownHOST
And this movie needed to do two things.
A
4:48Alfredo BrownHOST
This movie needed to, and this is talking in terms of big picture, right? obviously needed to be good but that's that's not like that's that's neither here nor there it needed to do two things the first one is show us that the dcu can have different tones right like can you give us uh can you give us lanterns and peacemaker and superman and then be able to do this and make it all exist within the same universe just one town over and i think they were able to succeed with that and then the other thing was the clay face character matt hagan Do you make us care what happens going forward with him that we want to see him in the DCU? And can this character not only exist in the DCU, but actually challenge Batman as a real villain? Because that's really the whole thing here.
A
5:31Alfredo BrownHOST
It's not just like, oh, that's a tragic story of some cool body horror.
A
5:36Alfredo BrownHOST
This character has to exist going forward and be an actual force against Batman.

Steven Soderbergh Takes Over The Batman Part II DC Round Up
B

And it turns out he sort of is and sort of isn't.
B
1:13Brian SchultzHOST
Because we got confirmation this week that none other than Steven Soderbergh, director of the Oceans trilogy, Traffic, of Aaron Brockovich, of Magic Mike, would be stepping in to take over the remainder of principal photography for the Batman Part 2.
B
1:29Brian SchultzHOST
Now, the release also made clear that Reeves would not be on set while Soderbergh was shooting.
B
1:35Brian SchultzHOST
However, the language they're telling us is that they will remain in communication while the filming is ongoing and then Reeves will then resume control of post-production when he's ready to return.
B
1:46Brian SchultzHOST
So the official quote is Matt Reeves continues to attend to an ongoing family matter.
B
1:51Brian SchultzHOST
Steven Soderbergh, as an admirer of Matt's work, approached Matt and will step in with the full support of DC Studios to help the writer-director complete the final weeks of principal photography on The Batman Part II.
B
2:02Brian SchultzHOST
Matt and Steven will work closely together with the actors and crew to fulfill Matt's vision of the film.
B

Soderbergh then released his statement saying, I thought Matt Reeves' work on The Batman was stunning.

I think also one of the things is with ongoing series or movies, etc., of characters that are quite clearly not going to die.
J

James Bond, Batman, all of those types is you need a strong supporting cast to up the stakes because the supporting cast can kind of come and go.

So if you take the time to, as I said, have a companion that is your entry point and I'd personally just go, especially for a new season, I'd just go one just to give this version of the Doctor more room to breathe as well.
