NFC North Division Preview + Biggest Questions, Team Strengths & Weaknesses

Before we get to our division preview, some news and notes.

Uh, there was a report out yesterday.

The Cardinals director of college scouting, Ryan Gold, was suspended for violating the NFL's gambling policy.

He is being accused of wagering on the Cardinals', uh, draft pick, uh, and draft selection, and also, uh, potentially, uh, making some wagers, some parlays during the season.

Marty, what do you make of this story?

Well, it, it, it...

If it's true, it, uh, uh, it's hard to believe that, that, uh, he would do something like that.

The NFL goes to such great lengths to educate their employees about gambling.

You have to go...

Everybody's gotta do at least one video.

There's several of them, I think, every year.

The NFL educates you on everything.

The risk is not nearly worth the reward.

So I, you know, not knowing the entire story, I went no.

But I will say this, that I, I, I don't think it's absolutely necessary that, that the director of college scouting knew who the Cardinals were gonna pick.

I mean, there were only basically three people in the building that knew, uh, our order, or the guy that we wanted to pick in the first round.

That would be the owner, um, the head coach, and, and myself.

Now, our scouts were as involved as any team in the league, I think, and their, their...

They were heard, and their opinions were heard.

But when it come down to making that final decision, because, you know, you're gonna have disagreements, and that's your job, is to sit there and listen to all the information.

You go out, you get yourself and, and watching the players, visiting the schools.

But really when it comes down to it, you don't want a lot of people to know.

So I'm not even sure that the director of college scouting, everybody does it differently, not totally sure he would know who they're gonna take.

We get five picks out, we took five players in order, uh, who we would take.

So, um, you know, I, I, I...
