What started as a script based on the director's own contentious divorce and custody battle, pulls in the public fascination with experimental therapy, discomfort with psychiatry, and some gross, mutant, childlike rage mutants with beaks and no bellybuttons to craft a horror where almost everyone's a victim, not just the ones ending up bludgeoned to death by monsters in colorful snowsuits!
