Body horror

What this story should've been about is these boys should've been going through puberty.

These boys should've been going through their own kind of body horror, right?

Yeah, yeah.

And he sh- as an adult-

Oh, heavens no

...

It's a body horror.

And without that release, without that valve of comedy moments, jokes to, to l- to, to, uh, alleviate, uh, or lubricate some of the discomfort, the movie just sits in awkwardness and strangeness.

Sure.

I think this is a very good introduction to that film because it's even more than a horror, it's a body horror.

It's really a body horror and it's so concentrated on the body and on some even gross elements of what can happen to a body, especially to a female body that is being changed from the outside.

There is an effort that is a social, economic, political effort to change the woman starting from the outside.

I think this is very interesting because also the only film directed by a woman in the main competition, which is Woman Unknown, is also very much concentrated on the female body, as if the history of economics and politics were, as it is, written on the body of women.

And there are also, without giving too much of a spoiler, ghosts going around.

Ghosts of other women that have already been through this legacy.

So I think it's very interesting that it's a true body horror that has a lot more to say about women in society.

I get that it's leaning into the gore and into the situations.

But like think about just in the first few episodes, there's like a person that gets like practically I hate body horror, too.

So this is all caveat.

I think caveated by that.

I hate body horror.

I hate.

unnecessary, in my eyes, unnecessary gore and stuff like that too in fights.

Like I enjoyed it.

I'm not big into body horror.

It's not my thing.

Even though the special effects were good.

works out.

Kristen would certainly know better than we would.

And it's another body horror movie.

So I'm super excited.

This is where the franchise really flexed its creative muscles in terms of visual, tangible scares.

I want to transition into what we can only describe as the uncanny valley and body horror for kids.

A great subgenre.

The source list highlights two incredible storylines that fit this bill perfectly.

His kids, Margaret and Casey, slowly come to the horrifying realization that the man upstairs making them breakfast might not actually be their dad.

He might be a plant clone he accidentally created.

Stay Out of the Basement is a masterclass in introducing children to the subgenre of body horror.

Body horror is usually pretty mature stuff, though.

I think I mentioned in my talk, someone said about like, you know, the body horror, you can imagine what it might feel like.

It takes it more to that level of like, God,

It had some entertaining parts, some fun parts, but I think the biggest thing for me, the biggest flaw for me, was that it wasn't a really good, concise story.

Seeing as how... which there is a movie i would love for you two to watch um when me and uh james were when fade was here a couple weeks ago we did a movie called grafted body horror film well it's probably my favorite body horror film it's up if it's not my favorite

it's up there with like top it's in the top two i'll say it's it was an interesting film And the story went good with it and all that other stuff.

He's obviously a very, very body horror character.

Uh, filmmaker and, and, you know, he does have a wide range of movies as we were talking about, you know, he did like M butterfly and he's got Eastern promises and history of violence, right? Great fucking movies.

But the, the, the body of his work is really these like mutations and even.

I mean, that that to me is my favorite.

That to me is is like, you know, just it exemplifies everything I love about Cronenberg.

Like Wyatt was saying, you know, you got the sex, you got the violence, you got the the body horror elements.

It's it's just all there.
