Existenz

We've done enough.

I've also watched Existence once already.

And I enjoy Cronenberg in interviews.

I like hearing him talk about movies, baking movies.

It was really down to the wire.

And he had been in Existenz, he had a very small part in Existenz, and I think he'd done some Canadian series, like some Sullivan series, I can't remember.

I know my mother-in-law, you know, was a big fan of him, and like, I don't know, Roe, Dav, and Lee, or something like that, I don't know.

But he just brought a lot of energy to this.

There's quite a few here that I haven't seen.

Even Existenz I haven't actually seen.

The torpedo-like nose is replaced the A.

This is a very interesting film.

Is it a good film? Well, must a film be good, right? That's a great classic question.

Must a film be good? No, not necessarily.

Is it not enough to just see a psychic shark take its revenge on a family?

For a movie to be a movie.

That is a good example.

It's the exact same thing.

Sarah Polley plays Ronna.

She was in The Sweet Hereafter, another show called Existenz with a Z on the end, My Life Without Me.

And in 2023, Sarah Polley won an Oscar-

My poor grandparents just had no clue what was on the fricking TV.

No five-year-old has any right to be watching Existenz, to be watching The Thing, to be watching Mars Attacks.

All of these, like, films that were...

I, I was just a little too young.

Um, I also went with a Cronenberg, not, not quite that recent, but more recent than this.

Um, I think it pairs really nicely with eXistenZ-

... um, which is also a movie that I just saw a few years ago when they put, I think Vinegar Syndrome put out a 4K, and I had always meant to get around to it and finally did.

Um, there, there are a lot of sort of aesthetic similarities in terms of, like, you know, technology becoming body apparatus, um, in terms of the sort of the, the...

W- what we didn't touch on that, another thing that I do love about the movie, it is, it is a twisty narrative that kinda keeps turning back on itself and revealing things and so forth, without ever feeling convoluted or like it's holding information back.

eXistenZ has that same quality, which I think is, is a really underrated thing for a movie like this to have, that people sort of take for granted, but that is hard to pull off.

Um, and a Jennifer Jason Leigh performance that I think is a nice sort of flip side to what James Woods is doing in this film.

Existenz, which I've never seen, but I've heard things about.

No, that's a David Lynch movie.

He did special effects for that.
