Combining two of those stories together, the lost sheep and the prodigal son, for a long time I identified with the brother going, I'm the one who's just been faithful.
Why are we so excited about this other guy? And then I realized I wasn't him and I was the brother that left or I was the one that was the sheep that was gone.
We should now, as believers now, we should think of ourselves as the brother, the older brother, because we quickly forget, as we were the one brought in, backed into the fold.
And by the way, we shouldn't see that as straying from the gospel, like you were a believer and then you left.
But now once you're saved, we immediately, it's crazy how fast we become the older brother.
