College football is back, and this season already has the feel of a full-blown shakeup - new contenders, massive quarterback turnover, and a real chance that the sport’s balance of power flips…
So for the season, I mean, going forward for this first little bit, what are you looking forward to?
I'm looking forward to seeing if Indiana can retain their title.
I think that'll be really fascinating.
They've got a new quarterback from TCU transfer there.
So, you know, you wonder how much of Indiana's success is down to Mendoza being a really fantastic quarterback in a really good system.
I'm kind of looking forward.
There's a few things, actually.
There's a new Pac-12 conference, which we'll get to.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how that unfolds.
I'm actually really looking forward to seeing the SEC because they've moved now to a nine-game conference schedule.
but the schedule's going to be really tough.
Seeing some really difficult matchups in that space, being slightly biased and a Texas fan, I'd quite like to see if Arch Manning lives up to the hype.
You know, they've got a really good chance of putting it all together this year.
So I think that, to me, SEC, can they wrest back control from the Big Ten? That's a big question for me.
But yeah, I think, and actually from a single game, which we'll get to, there's a fascinating Week 3 matchup between LSU and Ole Miss, which is suddenly going to have a ton of weight on it for lots of different reasons.
But I think seeing the SEC and the competitiveness, there's so many good teams in that conference this year.
And can they actually win a national championship for the first time in four years? I think that's going to be my thing to look forward
to.
How about you? What are you looking forward to? Yeah, just to pull on that thread, I think the Indiana thing, I mean, last year was a wild year for me.
The Seahawks won the Super Bowl, and then Indiana won the national title, which, to your point, I mean, growing up and being in the sport, if you'd said Indiana was going to win the college football national title,
I would have just hit you in the face, right? I think you said spit in my face last time.
Yeah,
I think I did, yeah.
But I think this kind of points to the broader point of, with the current landscape of college football being so sort of wild west so to speak i mean i i still don't feel like us as either a viewers of the sport or be even the teams and the the uh the schools have like a good grasp on what being a successful program sort of looks like again now right like everybody sort of understands now that it's lawless with the nil and you can um you can you know hand as much money out as you want to players and the movement of players is what it is.
But I still think there's still this like balance between, you know, how are we spending money? How are we just, how are we allocating our time? Like what's important anymore, right? Because I mean, the age of the Nick Saban to stack the five stars on your three deep and just win is over.
