Five hundred years ago a monk nailed a protest to a church door because salvation was being sold to build a basilica. The answer was five words: Scripture alone, grace alone, faith alone, Christ…

So today what I want to do is I want to look at something that 509 years ago I decided to write about nine years ago, and this is what we call the Reformation.

Martin Luther, who was this monk, Augustinian monk living in Germany, decided that he had had enough of the antics of Rome and how they were selling salvation for money, and he decided that he would write 95 theses that he nailed to the Wittenberg door.

I am doing this this month in honor of Reformation month, which we call the month of October, because he chose, of all things, Halloween in order to nail his theses to that door.

Now, Halloween is probably one of these topics that would be fun to talk about maybe later in the month.

In fact, I've done it a couple of times with a good friend of mine in Ireland, who's a missionary up there, talking about the meaning, the history of Halloween, even talking about why Martin Luther decided to nail his theses to the door on that day.

But in honor of that, I want to talk about a book that I wrote in 2017, the 500-year anniversary.

This is my Five Solas of the Reformation, and it's not coming through very clear.

But we will keep this in here just so you can see how crazy the cameras are working.

This was a sermon series [clears throat] that I did back in 2017, five weeks, to talk about what are called the Five Solas of the Reformation.
