Son of God

Yeah.

And yet, if Jesus gets up every morning to spend time with the Father as the sovereign Son of God who's the eternal, how much more do we as mere mortals need to do the same? Okay, so all that said, that's my setup.

Okay, so two things, and I'll give them to you quickly.

Number one is this.

In my book entitled Totem and Taboo, 1913, I have followed the hints of W. Robertson Smith, Atkinson, and Charles Darwin in the attempt to fathom the nature of this ancient guilt, and am of the opinion that the Christian doctrine of today still makes it possible for us to work back to its origin.

If the Son of God had to sacrifice his life to absolve mankind from original sin, then, according to the law of retaliation, the return of like for like, this sin must have been an act of killing, a murder.

Nothing else could call for the sacrifice of a life in expiation.

And if original sin was a sin against the God-Father, the oldest sin of mankind must have been a patricide, the killing of the primal father of the primitive human horde, whose memory picture later was transfigured into a deity.

I always think about what he said then as well.

This surely is the Son of God.

This surely is who he is, who he says he is.

And that's the power of the blood of Jesus.

For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls.

It is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.

So the life of God is in the blood of Jesus.

God's own life, the life of the Creator, our human minds have no way to calculate the potential of that statement.

He belonged to God.

The Son of God.

See, and because he understood these things, he did amazing things for God.

Jesus operated in the supernatural power of God because He understood who He was.

I want to be a temple of the Holy Spirit.

Pray this after me right now.

Say, dear God in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus, the Christ, the Son of God.

I repent of all sin.

And then the guessing starts, muddying the truth by focusing on the who rather than on the heart of the gospel.

But today we come to chapter 12 and 13, and we deal with an individual known as the Antichrist.

Turn with me please, chapter 12, book of Revelation, beginning in verse 1.

John calls this Antichrist, he called him the beast.

But we also meet other symbolic figures, a multi-headed dragon and all of that stuff, and I'm going to demystify it by the power and the grace of God very soon.

And here in chapter 12, we meet a woman clothed with the sun and the moon at her feet, and her head is crowned with twelve stars.

We beseech thee to hear us, good Lord.

Son of God, we beseech thee to hear us.

Son of God, we beseech thee to hear us.

O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world, grant us thy peace.

O Lamb of God, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us.

Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and when he had found him, Jesus went to find him.

And when he had found him, he said to him, Do you believe in the Son of God? He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him? And Jesus said to him, Watch the way Jesus talks in the third person.

You have both seen him and it is he who is talking with you.

So Jesus is not wanting to brag on himself, but he's clearly communicating to the man that he himself is the son of God.

Then this formerly blind man, he said, Lord, I believed and he worshiped him.

Probably that means he got down on his knees and bowed before Jesus.
