if you're out there give yourself extra points if you can recall the other four solas but we're not going to go into those today we're just talking about sola scriptura now strictly speaking my latin is pretty rusty but i think it means scripture only or only scripture scripture alone and uh One of the battle cries of the Reformation.

So I'd like to open up the table here and ask you believing men to explain to me, give me a definition.

What are we talking about when we say Sola Scriptura? I know Pastor Tom, you've got a quote there for us.
We believe that the inspired Word of God known as the Bible is our only book of faith and practice and our only authority.

So when we talk about an authority and faith and practice, I generally like to stress that what I think that means or entails, it includes it at least, is the idea that as church men, church people, we personally don't have any authority to bind anyone's conscience beyond what the scripture has said.

There really are areas where churches make a lot of hay, get a lot of mileage out of coming up with their own rules and binding men's consciences.

I think Jesus pictured it as coming up with heavy loads and putting them on men's shoulders and then not lifting a finger to help them with it.

And, uh, so for me, when we talk about authority and faith and practice, it's who gets to tell you what you really must do.
