Now before I get going on this review I need to, in the spirit of total transparency, total disclaimer, I'm not an aficionado of all the intersecting connections, characters, plot devices, overhangs, multiverses etc etc that exist within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I do know that Spider-Man is looked after by the Sony pictures side of things, which looks after Venom and things like Morbius.

But I am also aware of the fact that the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as manifested by the new series that have come out, the trailer for the Avengers Doomsday didn't get me excited.

I think Wonder Man, I thought that was an absolute treat, mainly because it kind of had a superhero thing, but it kind of was more interested in character, relationships and sort of real life emotional arcs.

And sometimes I find emotional arcs are really missing from a lot of the superhero stuff.

I'm not saying it has to get really dark and twisted all like the Joker, but just something a little bit more meaningful.

And this film, I'm going to say right up front, I found this a pleasant surprise.

I've got a little bit bored of Spider-Man as manifested by Tom Holland on the big screen.

And I've always said and I've always maintained that one of the main appeals of Spider-Man as a character for me.

The Spider-Man outfit is not entirely different to a gimp suit, if you were to remove the sort of web pattern.

What I liked about Tom Holland's iterations of Spider-Man was that the teenage-iness of him was real.

And what was nice in a sort of essentially teenage or young adult body of Tom Holland, him discovering all of his skills and acquiring his spidey senses and dealing with love and all the rest of it.
