And there was a villains spinoff franchise that Sony and Marvel was trying to get off.
JoseHOST
1:24
We got Morbius, Venom, Madam Web, and Kraven the Hunter, and then thus ended the experiment.
JoseHOST
1:30
I think they really wanted to do the Sinister Six, but...
JoseHOST
1:33
these didn't really pan out.
Charlie CardenHOST
23:54
And they, you know, and again, I take it right back to talking about the Spumco.
Charlie CardenHOST
23:58
And I think about Morbius in particular, and I don't know how Madam Web was more awful, but it definitely was.
Charlie CardenHOST
24:04
It
AprilGUEST

definitely was.
AveryPANELIST

Face down the road and assume that this is a bit of an origin story.
AveryPANELIST
5:16
Doesn't that POV make sense? And Craven and Morbius should probably take note.
AveryPANELIST
5:21
Not amazing, but I found it enjoyable enough.

3.5 out of 5 botched plastic surgeries.
Charles HolmesHOST

IP and you're like, we're going to do something that superhero movies haven't been able to do, which is like, give us a true, scary, horror, intimate movie.
Charles HolmesHOST
16:10
And then from there, it turns into Morbius bullshit.
Charles HolmesHOST
16:14
And I think that this is...
Charles HolmesHOST
16:16
the fatal flaw of the DCU so far, which is I can see a vision.
Charles HolmesHOST
16:24
But whether it's Supergirl or Peacemaker season two or Clayface now, it is like they're falling into the trap that a lot of superhero storytelling does outside of the MCU, which is they're trying to create a universe before they create like one compelling movie.
Van LathanHOST
16:44
Okay, so let's go back to the actual film.
Van LathanHOST
16:47
So you said Morbius bullshit.
Van LathanHOST
16:48
What do you mean by that?
Bryan RenfroGUEST
36:51
How many have there been
Chris StachiwHOST
36:52
now? What is there a Madam Web, Morbius, Craven? I mean, even as something as big as Joker, really.
Bryan RenfroGUEST
36:59
I mean, we've had all of these.
Bryan RenfroGUEST
37:02
So my question is with all of them, but even with this one, which I actually liked, but is it necessary?

Chris StachiwHOST

That movie makes no sense why it exists.
Chris StachiwHOST
44:43
And Madam Web, same thing.
Chris StachiwHOST
44:45
Morbius, same thing.
Chris StachiwHOST
44:46
All of them exist to try and make money to cash in on the character of Spider-Man and his cadre of villains.
ImranHOST

unleashes Clayface, an R-rated body horror nightmare about a Hollywood actor whose plastic surgery goes very, very wrong.
ImranHOST
0:15
Is this the most disgusting superhero movie ever made? Or just Morbius with better makeup? Plus, Avengers Doomsday invades Major League Baseball, Marvel's X-Men may have found their beast, and Hollywood is still looking...

Opening thoughts.
RugboyPANELIST
33:44
This is kind of like DC's version of like the Sony movies like Venom and Morbius and whatever.
RugboyPANELIST
33:56
And it's in between the two.
JackHOST
29:29

DerekHOST

DerekHOST
29:42

DerekHOST
29:49

DerekHOST
29:50
It was like glug, glug, glug, glug.
DerekHOST
29:52
You know where Morbius will be.
DerekHOST
29:54
The spinning wheel of death.
ArnieHOST
8:44
Oh, yeah, but I think this feels very much like a 21st century superhero.
ArnieHOST
8:49
When I'm watching this in theaters, I'm definitely thinking Morbius.
ArnieHOST
8:53
I'm thinking Kraven.
ArnieHOST
8:54
I'm thinking a little bit of Madam Web.

StuartHOST

ArnieHOST
32:05
The other thing is, there was question, would this be set in the Batman universe, and they used some of the same shooting locations for this as they did the Batman and Penguin, or would this be set in James Gunn's DC universe, and Gunn has finally come out and said, or I think it was Safran said, this is in the DC universe, this is not in Matt Reeves' world, but you wouldn't know it, it doesn't matter, it's in the same world as Morbius, isn't in the same world as Madam Web.
JustinHOST
32:35
It'll feel more connected in the future.

Like, this is very much in the, what would you expect, yellow spandex? Ariel comic book adaptations.
Jeremy FusterPANELIST
60:32
I think that, I mentioned this last week, that I really felt like the uphill battle for this movie was that people there were going to be people who looked at this not the everybody but enough of the core audience for this movie that we're going to look at this and immediately think Morbius like it was going to have to miss the concept of this meant that it was going to have to overcome the reputation that when people see a movie about comic book villain from a group was the adversary of a very famous superhero even though it's from a completely different studio and completely different people made it and even though there's quality people like there's a black mirror director and Mike Flanagan with the script that's the reputation has to overcome but I still feel I'm still in a glass-half-full thing on this I still think that this movie could have a really good second weekend Like, there's going to be people who want to see something next weekend, like they want to see a horror movie for Halloween.
Jeremy FusterPANELIST
61:37
And there's nothing really else out there.
Jeremy FusterPANELIST
61:40
Nope, they're not seeing Other Mommy.
Jeremy FusterPANELIST
62:31
Whereas here, it's like, there is some effect in marketing a clay face if you separate it from the notions people have about a movie like this.
Jeremy FusterPANELIST
62:40
I did think things like the whole covering a face and it's all clayed up was pretty cool.
Jeremy FusterPANELIST
62:45
You know, and I feel like if it wasn't for Morbius and Kraven 100 salt salt in the earth ahead of it, maybe people would have been more receptive to that.
Jeremy FusterPANELIST
62:55
So now I think like, it's starting to get over that hill.
