I do a quick catch up on where I am at gaming and what events I will be attending in the new couple months. Starting at 11:30 we go into full spoilers for Spider Man A Brand New Day as I play a call…
You know, I picked up the playtest of Against the Star Master.
And this is by the same group that put out Against the Dark Master.
And as you know, this is kind of a... re-look at the whole Role Master system, and really Merp, Middle-Earth role-playing.
And it's interesting when you look at how they've crunched it down, but still kept some of the core things in there.
You know, against the Star Master, well, against the Dark Master has six attributes, and against the Star Master, and he has four.
And when we look back at the games from Ironcrown Enterprises, you know, Merp had 7 attributes.
Standard Role Master has 10 attributes.
And when we look at Cyberspace, their Cyberpunk one, that actually has 11 attributes.
But we've come down to, like I say, 4 for Star Master, which is really interesting.
But, you know, I think they work.
You know, we still have skills in there, and you still have...
some of the crunchy stuff with combat, and skills are still tied with these tributes.
We still have all your favorite critical hit and fumble tables, all that kind of thing.
But Star Master looks pretty exciting.
You can still get the beta and playtest it and give feedback if you're interested in doing that.
It'll all pop up and you'll be able to find it.
And I'll put a link in the show notes.
But Open Ended Games is really doing an interesting job here.
And I'm excited for Against the Starmaster.
I think one of the tough things with the old Rollmaster games and Rollmaster-based games... was that initial character creation and then leveling up the characters.
You know, as crunchy as those games were, and as, you know, we're talking about 10 attributes, 11 attributes, they actually ran pretty smoothly at the table.
But I think these games, by opening games, especially Star Master, now, you know, obviously with the playtests you're getting pregens and things like that, but it looks like your leveling up process will be a lot simpler than... you know, what we have in, say, Cyberspace or Space Master.
So that's a plus.
