Are you unteachable? Ever noticed it's always the other guy that is unteachable? "I've got it down! They need to listen to me!" Some Christians have even gone so far as to embrace anti-intellectualism…
So I want to introduce today's topic with a story, a conversation I had with somebody.
I was talking to somebody and I happened to mention Rene Girard and his memetic theory.
memetic theory that's that's out there and i go you know my perspective you know everybody's entitled to their point of view so i go i go okay well i i go i don't agree i i see sacred violence everywhere and he goes what's sacred violence And I go, you might want to read his book, Violence and the Sacred, and immediately just expose that he's never read or followed or done anything with Rene Girard.
So probably got the perspective on memetic theories for some preacher in a pulpit.
Or somebody who's just spreading things on YouTube or something about how evil this stuff is and never researched it himself.
And so my thing is, you know, you could say, well, you know, I've heard some bad things about this person or that belief.
there has been an epidemic really in much of Christianity of an anti-intellectualism of refusal to learn, be open to teaching, reading, research.
The other guy is unteachable, but it's really because he's not receiving what I'm saying, but me forcing myself upon him.
But it's never, you know, me who's not listening or going, hmm, maybe I have something to learn in this conversation.
You know, it's like in that conversation about Rene Girard, hmm, you know, tell me more about this because I've heard negative things.
my favorite preacher or whatever said something so i want to open this up to you guys i know you have experience with this and you have stories about this and this podcast even came about because of steve running into numerous conversations over the past couple weeks on this topic so i'm going to throw it out there whoever wants to go first go first go steve
