DawgNation Daily -- the daily podcast for Georgia Bulldogs fans Beginning of the show: I discuss a recent comment from Kirby Smart about what he thought was a lack of "juice" from Georgia fans in…
All right, coming up, as a big Georgia fan, I have to tell you that the way I thought I would feel about Saturday's game against Vanderbilt, going back, like, say, months ago when I was envisioning this week being here, in the actual present tense of the moment, I actually feel a little bit different than I thought that I would.
Before we get to that, though, can we go back in time just for a moment to Saturday's game? And I think a word that we're gonna use a lot for Saturday is the game against Oklahoma, to me, just felt a little bit weird.
I remember when we first got there, and I was lucky enough to have some of my family with me to the game on-- My daughter didn't go, but my son and my, uh, wife, they came to the game on Saturday.
And as my son and I were walking, you know, along the stadium, he was going to visit his cousin and hang out, tailgate, and do that kind of thing a little bit, um, I was telling my son that, "Uh, boy, I could have never imagined we'd be in Athens with Oklahoma coming to Georgia as an SEC opponent." Back when I was his age, that would have just seemed unimaginable.
Here's this huge, big brand in Georgia hosting this huge, big brand in Oklahoma somehow.
And as somebody who, like, loves college football history and particularly loves Georgia's history, there's an element of that that I really like, and it seems like it should be a big game, but it just kind of wasn't.
And, and I don't even know, like-- I don't even-- I mean, I've got a lot we could say about this, and some of it I think we will.
It, it, it just never quite felt like this fever-pitch euphoria of, "Oh my gosh, man, this is one of those days you live for inside Sanford Stadium." The weather was perfect.
Uh, I think the Georgia fans were, you know, I think open to the possibility, but it just never quite got there.
And, and, you know, some of that I attribute to the fact that, uh, you know, Georgia's season itself has kind of gotten off to a weird start.
This is a third of the way through your regular season, and even this felt a little-- I'm sure the Georgia team would not say this, but to our eyes, some of it felt a little non-competitive because of how bad John Mateer was in the first half.
