No, I just, I s- just snuck out of my window when I was 21 and, and got on a plane and went to see him in, uh, uh, God, where was it? That Tex- place in Texas.

But my dad caught up with me in about Meridian, Mississippi, so...

And that's the year I played the, uh, I opened the, uh, Lake Placid Winter Olympics.

Oh.

I talked to maintenance." Sure.

"You gotta switch rooms." I go, "Okay." Uh, then there's a knock on the door, and it's the guy from the front desk, and he's like, uh...

Also, can we do this? Could we wait five Mississippi before you knock again? You know what I mean? Like, I'm in a suite.

Oh, yeah.

And I went to the Word of God, and it said, uh, uh, "You will not die but live, and, uh, you will bear testimony of me." And God just took that word right off the page and gave it to me.

But the strange thing was that several days after that, I received three letters: one from down in Mississippi, one from in Georgia, and one from another place right here.

They said, uh, "Adrian, were you in difficulty? Were you in trouble? God laid on my heart that I should pray for you." And what a blessing it was to get these letters that said, "I don't understand it, but God told me to pray specially for you." Such a blessing to know that the angel of the Lord encamps round about those, uh, that fear Him.

God is a good God.

It is actually an example of the importance of trusting the process.

So when I got to Brown, another thing was, like, Brown has a natural connection to my home state of Mississippi through the Brown-Sivalu partnership.

So I knew that I didn't have to do all of the background information in explaining what Mississippi is.

They knew it.

They'd been working with students and faculty and staff at Sivalu College for, like, over 40 years.

So that was also a major attractant I knew that I wanted to come to Brown and start a research program in Mississippi.

I wanted to open up Community Noise Lab in Mississippi, and I really wanted to do community noise work in Mississippi.

I applied for a Seed Award, got the Seed Award, and when I went to Mississippi, I was immediately confronted by a whole bunch of things that had nothing to do with noise.

wrote your name down on a sheet of paper and said, I'm going to remember this name.

And again, like I said, when did the athleticism kick in? Because I don't think at that time you weren't the Mississippi Bullet at that point.

I was fast, but I wasn't explosive at that time.

My freshman year, I couldn't even dunk.

I think I have the opportunity to come in and get some of those guys to come in and play for Alcorn State and build a winning culture.

So that's the reason why I did.

And then, you know, it just makes sense for being back in Mississippi.

And I've been around HBCU my whole life.

On July 4th, 2026, 18-year-old college football player Nolan Wells disappeared after sailing to Mississippi's Horn Island to celebrate Independence Day with a group of friends.

After an afternoon of partying, Nolan's friends sailed back to the mainland, but Nolan wasn't with them.

Two days after Nolan went boating with friends and didn't return, the teenager's body was found floating face down off the northwest shore of Horn Island.

The remote barrier island is located roughly 10 miles off the Mississippi Gulf Coast and is accessible only by private boat.

Despite having no stores or restaurants, Horn Island can attract hundreds of people on major holidays like July 4th.

It's a modern day American lynching.

this is just so oh my god it's it's very worrying yes of course so what we're in here is uh well a man's been arrested first off and although interestingly uh one media source has claimed that it is a black man who's been arrested which does therefore have some bearing on the story but that's only one new source in any way ultimately does it change the overall thing what we have here is a woman called tasia fortune her body found hanging from a tree she was dead in basically a lot, an apartment block lot in Jackson, Mississippi.

This is of course a majority black city, a city with a history of racial violence and Mississippi police say they have also interviewed 15 other people that additional arrests may come Just as 50 members of the US Congress have talked about a pattern of possible modern day lynchings.

So people being hanged on purpose.

There's no accidental stuff here.

So what we have here is a black woman found hanging from a tree, a woman called Tasia Fortune.

Her body was found hanging in the lot of an abandoned home in the city of Jackson, Mississippi.

Jackson, famous, infamous place.

for its history of racial violence and the fact is it used to be a place where lynchings took place regularly thanks to the Ku Klux Klan.

Now we don't know if it's Ku Klux Klan this time around but certainly there's been an arrest and Mississippi police say that they're also interviewing others.

The arrest may have been a black man.

I don't know if that changes that at all because 50 members of the US Congress have talked about their alarm as a pattern of old-style lynchings.

Next up for UNC, an ACC showdown in Death Valley against Clemson, that game on Saturday at noon.

The UNC Charlotte 49ers fell to No. 9 Ole Miss 41-9 on Saturday in Oxford, Mississippi.

The Rebels scored on their opening drive and built a 24-3 halftime lead, holding the 49ers without a touchdown for the second straight week.

All of Charlotte's points came from three first-half field goals by Kyle Coonanen, including a 55-yard kick that tied the program record.

It's crazy.

The economy, they would be the poorest state in America, poorer than Mississippi.
