09-10-26 - Going Dark

Uh, we're gonna talk about dark beers today, uh, because we, uh, we're...

Back in, uh, October of last year, um, Josh and Adam rolled the, uh, the, the Masher Luck and, uh, they got a medium ABV, low bitterness, black German ale.

And you guys, uh, decided to do...

Well, you, you brewed the beers separately, but you also had a, a collaboration, right Josh?

Yeah, so we kinda talked through it and kinda figured out, we both sorta landed on an altbier would be a fun style to make.

And a black alt is a thing that probably isn't real real, but we made it real.

[laughs]

So, um, yeah, I was super happy with how the beer came out.

It was really well received at the brewery.

So, um, I think the two can- the cans we have today are probably all that exist of that, that beer.

It's been off tap for a while now.

We sold through it fairly quickly, uh, this spring, so.

Yeah.

We, um, after visiting, um, Josh at his brewery, uh, I realized he and I have very similar brewing sensibilities.

Um, like we're, we're cut from the same cloth, I think, more or less.

Um, and so when he pitched alt, I've been having people ask me to brew an alt for quite a while, customers.

Uh, and I get on a soapbox with altbiers a lot.

Um, and I don't have to today unless someone really wants me to, to go on a rant about altbiers.

Um, but, uh, I figured it'd be fun if we did it and we did them differently.

So, um, one, uh, Josh's has carafa in it, and mine, I used, um, the, the carafa syrup, which I'm drawing a blank on.

Cinnamar.

Cinnamar.

Oh, yeah.

And we, I still have plenty of mine on tap.

[laughs]
