So if you want to start out, because I'm dying to do this, let's show what we're drinking.

Because I've got Hofbrauhaus beer and I've got the Dunkel.

That's what I actually started with the original.

That's already gone and I'm on to something else, but I've got the Dunkel and I got plenty more too.

So when that one runs out, I got something else too.

And we got them in our mosses, right? Is that the proper term for it? Yes.

Klombach, or I can't pronounce it, and I'll mess up some of the pronunciations.

Berliner Weiss from Berlin, obviously, and you have Altbier from Dusseldorf and Kohl's from Cologne, but those are all one.

I do like my dark beers.

I like Dunkels.

I like Guinness.

I like Guinness a lot.

Yes.

So it would have been Honey Weiss, Fairy Weiss, or their Dark Lager.

But I'm like, ah, props out of Shandy.

So it's like, I won't be in solidarity.

And until the 19th century, the German word lager beer referred to all types of bottom-fermented, cool-conditioned beer in normal strengths.

In Germany today, it mainly refers to beers from southern Germany, either Heller's ales, pale ales, or Dunkels, which are the darker ones.

But there are many other styles of lager.

You've got the Pilsner style, which is a much more heavily hopped pale lager.

[upbeat music] [laughs] So Chris, uh, if, if you're like me or m- uh, hopefully you're, you're a better recipe formulator than me, but, uh, I tend when I'm, when I'm making a dark beer to like throw the everything but y- but the kitchen sink into the recipe.

Uh, it, it would seem like darker beers, it would be more tempting than other styles to do that, don't you think? Or is that what you've found in, in, you know, looking at recipes, formulating recipes, all that?

Yeah, at, at a home brew level a lot of dark beer recipes are pretty busy.

People start thinking that, you know, you can throw everything but the kitchen sink in there.

Um, and I mean, I, I have to admit that when I make a dark beer a lot of times I, I blend the roasted malts.

You know, I, I rarely brew a dark beer that's like 100% chocolate malt or all black patent or all whatever.

I have not had this, but it sounded good.
