Now, let me just describe for you what happened.
We don't need to spend a lot of time on this, but this is what happened.
Peter and John are on their way to the temple.
It's the time of the evening sacrifice.
It was also a time in the temple worship of designated prayer.
So Peter and John are heading up to the temple.
To give you an idea of that, it was a fairly busy place in the temple.
Most scholars believe that the Beautiful Gate led you into what was called the Court of Women, where the ladies were allowed into temple worship.
And from the Court of Women, then you could go into the Court of Israel, where only Jewish men were allowed.
So this was a very busy part of the temple.
People would have been streaming in at this point and so the scenario that we have is this man who was lame from birth and Luke is very clear about helping us understand that this man had never walked in his life.
He is brought there by friends on a daily basis, brought there at a particularly busy period, in a busy place so that he can beg.
That's his only means of livelihood and he is brought to the beautiful gate and as usual he is there.
Then we have this incredible story of Peter looking at him.
The man calls out to him asking for Peter and John to give him some money.
Peter looks straight at him and we had it read to us, looks him straight in the eye and he says, look at me, look at us.
I don't have money, says Peter, but I've got one thing that I can give you.
in the name of Jesus Christ, the Nazarene, rise up and walk and the scripture tells us, he takes him by the hand and it says, the man's feet and ankles are instantly strengthened and he's risen to his feet and then we read that wonderful verse that he goes into the temple with Peter and John, walking and leaping and praising God.
Think about that, wouldn't you, wouldn't you You have never walked in your life and now you're on your feet and not just walking, not just standing, you're walking.
And so you leap and you praise and you head into church.
This is the interesting thing.
I want you to have a look when it says, when Peter gives him the command to walk.
