Trophimus

They seized him, shouting, "'Fellow Israelites, help! This is the man who is teaching everyone everywhere against our people, our law, and this place.' More than that, he has actually brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place.

For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, and they supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple.

Then all the city was aroused, and the people rushed together.

They seized Paul and dragged him out of the temple, and immediately the doors were shut.

Erastus has remained in Corinth.

I left Trophimus sick at Miletus.

Make every effort to come back before winter.

Eubulus greets you, as do Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brothers and sisters.

that he trained, he influenced.

But beside Timothy and Titus, and you've got Trophimus and Tychicus and Gaius and others, and they had ministry.

So that's the New Testament pattern.

Now, as Dave said, do they have pastoral residencies? Do they have official mentorships? Do they have a a real stylizing, uh, training program.

He was about to set sail for Syria when a plot was made against him by the Jews, and so he decided to return through Macedonia.

Timothy had a stomach ailment in 1 Timothy 5.

2 Timothy 4, Trophimus was left behind sick, it says.

Jesus didn't heal everybody in every village that he walked through.

So there's times for higher purpose that this happens.

But I wanna, I wanna just briefly touch on one of the other arguments that doesn't convince me, um, is this kind of argument from silence that actually may be the most popular now, which is that, you know, oh, we can observe in the New Testament the, the dying out, so to speak, of the gifts.

Because you see, you know, in the Book of Acts, Paul is laying hands on people and healing them, and then, you know, he leaves Trophimus sick in Miletus, so you know, which is interesting, right? Because you pointed this out, John Mark.

The cessationist belief is that the gift of healing is on command.

Yeah.

And so it's, it's interesting that, um, what I- what we would say [laughs] is Paul leaving Trophimus sick in Miletus does the opposite.

It testifies that the gift of healing was never a on command possession that Paul, through his fingertips, could just bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, Benny Hinn style, knock people out with healing.
